In spite of the author own interpretation I see it like this: She has left him. That is the meaning of the "leapt". And when she did, is already fragile (because of fear of losing her) world crumbled down, the whole city (is world) and even hellicopters in the air. She is put on the status of goddess since she sees it all from above or simply means she is unarmed and he thinks maybe she doesn't care what has just happened to his world (and to him), so that's why she is distant in the skies. He is baffled by her so much that he feels music when he sees her or when he is with her. He asks how is that possible? Some secret mystery she has in her. "You've been locked in here forever and you just can't say goodbye" (in spite of the author says it's the girls that can get out of the city) I think it's more beautiful to think he's totally and crazy in love with her. And she is locked in his heart and can't leave his heart even if she is leaving. "Your lips my lips Apocalypse" means that he feels that when is kissing her it could be the last kiss and it's a goodbye kiss, so their relation will never last because he already know she will leave him one day or another. In spite of the he feels it's a powerfull and precious kiss even if it's goodbye that will bring destruction to his world. "Kisses on the foreheads of the lovers wrapped in your arms You've been hiding them in hollowed out pianos left in the dark" - This means that this is what he feels she does to lovers like him, kisses them on the foreheads when she will say the last goodbye and leave them hidden and lost in the dary (like pianos with no sound or sould just forgotten and cannot be heard by her anymore) The rest is pretty obvious they know and share secrets and good times since they were kids and he loves her since then by all the memories and a locket that she gave him that he hangs to him when he goes to sleep. In the final words he says that he will be always be there for her when she wants. Even if she leaves him. He will still lover her and always will... |

It kinda involves some girls I dated in my hometown- based on how they were really imaginative and they wanted to travel and see the world but they were trapped in the city. Mark Knopfler says he is living far from home near the mountains and since he is from Scotland he says proudly "But my home is the lowlands and always will be" talking about the Scottish Lowlands. He associates is felling of homesick or nostalgia with what the soldiers in the war also feel "Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms" and he calls the soldiers his brothers because of this shared fealing and more...maybe he also was a soldier in some war. He talks about the destruction caused by the war and the suffering and the companionship/brotherhood of the soldiers fighting with and against him. He adds that we live all in the same planet and are all the same(same race, with all the same fealings etc...) but we're far apart because of religion, country etc..and fight each other for that "And we have just one world But we live in different ones". He says farewell to his "brothers"because war is stupid and probably he has to try and kill them We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms"... Resuming: War is stupid and should be avoided...Many of the wars are fought for stupid, stupid, stupid reasons like religion, politics...that divides us...but appart from that stupid things we all are the same...only with different backgrounds/culture!!! |

This song it's so true and beautiful(true inspired writting). Everyone that falls in love wants it to be forever and this girl that he is talking about has that power "Love that won't die She is revolution" and it is a revolution because it's uncommon to be forever in love with a person and maybe only utopic! There's also true beautiful romantic words about the girl: -an elevation of the girl status to goddess "She is my Christ She is my reddemer" and maybe a renegation of faith in god because she is more important "your name is sacred" -awakening with her and hearing her voice it's all that it is needed to forget all the pain we feel in this world ...it's like a fantastic remedy "your voice in the morning...all my doubts are gone and pain i can't remember" Do you believe in a pure,complete...perfect and transcending love that lasts forever?
