These lyrics somehow instill a lot of imagery of rape. Am I imagining this? |

Has anyone ever thought that this song might be about incest? This is just a very loose idea of mine, and I am pretty sure I am wrong... but, anyways. here is my analogy. "Come on inside and I'll show you your brother He’s got enough money to buy a new father" A woman is in love with her brother, who has enough money to buy a new father (or identity), but he would rather not. "He’s got enough money to bother Somebody else Solder two wires together Somebody else" Instead he chooses to pay a man Having enough money to bother somebody else) to marry (soldering two wires together)his sister.. "Remember that mouthful you spat in his mouthful He never forgave you, he’s so very spiteful He’s so very vengeful and so very frightful He’s got enough money to bother Solder two wires together" The "mouthful you spat in his mouthful" may be refferring to her kissing him. He then realized that he had more than just brotherly feelings for her, but he tried to deny it to himself. He never forgave her for making him realize this. This is why he wants his sister to find another man. He has too much pride. "Scarecrow and fungus, they ran through a stoplight But it didn’t matter cause no one was hurt Scarecrow and fungus, they ran through a stoplight But it didn’t matter cause they were on foot" The pair ran through a stoplight (did something considered bad) in being incest. They were on foot, so they didn't have sex. No one was hurt, because they could not have any children because they didnt have sex, and if they had children they would be deformed.. ect. "They say he’s adopted but quite maladapted They say he’s corrupted but quite well-respected He’s got lots of money, we all really like him" someone might have foundout about their romance, and so their cover story is that he's adopted. Not everyone beleives this though, so they say he is corrupted. However, he somehow manages to buy respect, so that it is hard for people to judge him. Ex. He donates a whole lot of money to charity so that he is a valued member of the community . This is just my interpretation of this song, and I can have a pretty messed up mind sometimes. I also like nobodysnightingale's interpretation. |
