I feel like the song is saying that no matter what happens they'll have each other. "Our glory may fade" love is always so strong at first, and even if things fade or aren't the same, they learn and they're in it together. ? Beautiful song! |

Yeah I agree with everyone pretty much, I think it's about something tearing up at his mind, stuck in his head, a nightmare, maybe an addiction. Just something that wont leave him alone, being called "wolves" i love when he sings the "they tumble and fight and they're beautiful on the hilltops at night they are beautiful" part. the way he sings beautiful! very good song |

beautiful song! :) it seems like she's still hooked on someone but she's just completely okay and accepting towards the fact that they don't really talk or see each other anymore and he lives far, and she still wonders if he misses her ever and she says "Even if it's dumb I love only you You are the only one" so maybe she's just come to terms with where they are at, but she still thinks of him and he's the only one. and she's remembering memories of theirs justa thought! hmm |

I always thought this was kind of about the way he wanted to get buried! when he sings "Just burn my body in a box And let my ashes Blow with the wind Out into the night sky" i really love that. i think that's the way i'd like to be buried as well. The topic and this song are both very unique. Such a good song, I love the harmonica parts, someone really special to me taught me how to play it once, and now I can't listen to the song without bringing back memories. |

I really like this song, I keep listening to it! I always think the "I'll leave when the wind blows Take a breath There your air goes I'll be outside of your window I'll pass by, but I'll go slow" i think it's almost like him saying goodbye, the fact that he is going slow as he passes by, like he's taking the moment in knowing it will probably be his last going by her window. kind of thing, but i'm not sure! but obviously i think it's about an ending love, and having to leave. a lost love |

Oh, I love this song. I think the end just puts the whole song together so well, the way he keeps repeating it and the music goes a little faster while "we started laughing till it didn't hurt" keeps being sung. like they just push everything they went through to the side and laugh instead of being so hurt over it. it makes me want to cry and then also, towards the build up when he sings "And I know she loved me once But those days are done She used to call me every day From a pay phone on her break for lunch Just to say she cant wait to come home" and the way he repeats "to come homee" it breaks my heart i don't know if any of that makes sense, but great song! |

To me, this song is talking about something that's over, like a relationship, and trying to move on or "roll on" and keep going with life. and he's just trying to go someplace else and start new, somewhere west of her. but i think maybe he still misses her (your voice is the one inside my head) but she's someplace else happy so he has to just keep trying to roll on. that's my try! |

I do agree with a lot being said here. This song is about how the world today is constantly wanting better and more and all of the beautiful green grass is getting built over, and then the simple and very strong point of saying and where do all the children play now? like, what nature and simplicity and beauty is left? we keep building and building. I think Cat Stevens also has a great aproach in this song as well, because he is not forceful himself. He says "I know we've come a long way, we're changing day to day," showing somewhat that he understands kind of why society is turning into the way it is. but then brings up, where do the children play? and it just really makes the point. A great song! It's just really speaking to me right now, because a nearby cherished park that I hold a lot of memories at is now having a highway built over it. It's the saddest thing, and the first thing that popped up into my head when I foundout about it was, where do the children play? There's even a playground at this park, so it reminded me of that even more. We are trading all of this nature and beauty and memories in for highways and buildings? rantingranting! |

To me, it’s like she didn’t want to stay and watch something beautiful fall apart, although she may have known that it was and there was nothing she could do. Things fall apart. But she almost didn’t want to watch it fall apart because the stars were once so bright (her love was), or she saw it that way. And I think maybe she still loves this person, but not in the same way, and she’s sorry it has to be over because it was so great, she didn’t want to unhook the stars with them. But she is also content with what is happening and hopeful. I don't know, this kind of means to me that she thought everything was beautiful but she just didn't feel the same and she's sorry she is unhooking the stars with her relationship or whatever, but she is open and looking and hopeful and ready for something else maybe. She says she's not running away or sad, which is why I think she's content. She said she kept all his letter though, which to me shows that he still has meaning to her, but as I said not in the same way. I don't know, just my interpretation! This song really speaks to me. |

When he sings "there's a certain sadness. but i know, i know, i know, the sky is what makes the ocean blue." I think he is comparing the sky making the ocean "blue" (as in a blue mood but also the color blue as well) to sadness, and how there is a beauty to it. Like, the beautiful sky makes the beautiful ocean which is blue "blue". I think he's just trying to get at the fact that it's a sadness with a certain beauty too and things will be alright. I don't think he means literally, or like it's proven that the sky is what makes the ocean blue. I think it was a type of metaphor maybe. If that makes sense :) |
