| The Matches – Here's to Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| One more thing: the acoustic version of this song makes it a lot more heartbreaking, believe me! Makes me feel more sad than mad. | |

Well, to answer the site's question: this song means I'm clearly not the ONLY one in the world who responds rather viciously, sometimes. to the end of a love affair! LOL Thanks, guys, for helping me remember that. And apparently there are LOTS of mixtapes at Goodwill!!!!! :) |

Here are all the lyrics. They were posted a while ago somewhere on one of The Matches' sites. Hope this helps! This is one of my VERY favorite songs, and it pained me. LOL We hide As sidewalks crawl. diseased, Ever shopping, hopping fleas as The engines hum The sun’s reprise. We rise, into skies punctured with stars She steers us through her Dogpatch bars A barback nods---he’s one of ours As they sleep Their city's awake and wide Their city's awake and wide We're aching inside, aching Mistakes are waiting to take me for a ride Their city's awake and wide Their city's awake and wide We're aching inside, aching Mistakes are waiting to take me for a ride My blood, finally thick enough to drive Marianne, last touch, 5:45 The highway's already alive With the khakis teaming with caffeine To coax the cursor ’cross the screen The nervous tick-tocking machine Their city's awake and wide Their city's awake and wide We're aching inside, aching Mistakes are waiting to take me for a ride Uh uh uh uh, all the lights go green For me, Lord Legless, and my sacred rose queen Uh uh uh uh oh, my Marianne, tell your old man Uh uh uh uh oh, my Marianne, tell your old man We're nothing serious From Lower Haight to sea cliff estates Sped past the finest You gave no chase We‘re proud to feast (Their city) On Mission grease, (Their city) We’ll freeze our tits off (This city's awake) On Baker Beach (Their city's awake) rolled back to park You rolled a smoke (You killed the beams) I nearly spoke (Marianne) I'm half his age (I'm half the man) Tell your old man We're nothing serious Their city's awake and wide Their city's awake and wide We're aching inside, aching Mistakes are waiting to take me for a ride |

2nd verse should read: "I'll just hurry over, worried sick you mi ght be sick." Wish I knew the last verse, too...each time I listen I think I know, then change my mind on the next listen! You can now listen to the entire album on The Matches' MySpace, as of today. |

| The Matches – Point Me Toward The Morning Lyrics | 18 years ago |

(?)= "Can I hear three cheers for these?" I love this song! It rocks. And it might give a generation or two something to think of in terms of their future and their government. But, hey, how would I know what the composer was thinking? Just seems that way to me! And good for the Matches if that's what they're implying! |

| The Matches – Future Tense Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is adorable. :) She pressed inside my shirt then gave me a SHOVE; FACE the future tense. After all, that's what he's asking her to do, right? With him in her future. |

this song explains itself. It's so incredibly sad to be treated that way. Few corrections: downslide on the sidewalk; clocks divorcing ticks; or just for instance he's CLAWING your fat; pushing your BREASTS into the mattress. Great song for sobbing to!!! |

| The Matches – Clouds Crash Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Well, who really knows? But it seems like, "leave the past behind and come with me to be free (skin again)." | |
| The Matches – Between Halloweens Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"It's not the girl that we let TEAR THROUGH OUR CORE; IT'S THE TEAR THERE BEFORE...THAT MAKES THIS GIRL INTO MORE." "Just LICKED lips under a flame of CURLS" (I'm pretty sure!) :) |

OK! My fave change will be "...keep your GENE POOL to yourselves." Which makes it clearer why the heck they want The Matches out of their chip shop, huh? LOL :) ---Linda |

I think it's protest, too: anticipatory protest from The Matches to those who will complain about the changes in the Matches' sound they'll find on the new CD, A Band In Hope. When the 4 Matches are united, they are more than the sum of their individual parts; they are then one band making the changes THEY want to make in THEIR music. I LOVE the sentiment! Go Matches! |

| The Matches – Yankee In A Chip Shop Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Seems like The Matches had themselves one HELL of a good time on their UK tour! By the way...it's a "tube stop" aka: the London subway, not a TOMB stop, which makes no sense! :) But after A Band In Hope drops, London will be BEGGING these Yankees to hang out in ALL their shops. |

| The Matches – Their City Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Nothing, with the INCREDIBLE amount of errors in these posted lyrics! Whoever posted this clearly doesn't know much about The Matches or he/she would know "LORD LEGLESS and my sacred rose queen" from many of Shawn Harris' posts and his artwork of Lord Legless. This is shameful. | |
| The Matches – Future Tense Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds like it's a couple getting to know one another. And having fun doing it. | |
| The Matches – Darkness Rising Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It would mean more if the lyrics were right. Try substituting "torrential eyes" (as in crying) for "to wrench your eyes" which sounds awfully painful! Lots of errors in the lyrics from this album submitted by this member. | |
