I agree with bS.O.S. To me this song is about drug abuse. It may not be, but it sure can fit the profile lyrically. "Sometimes it feels like the worlds filled with feathers/table bottom gum holding it together", whatever it may be about, it's not about the best times in life. |

It's a drug abuse song. In this instance it's about stopping, for at least awhile. MMJ don't normally hide their meanings behind deep metaphors, and this is no exception. |

This song could be about a lot of things, but the guitar, double drums, and screaming chorus are timeless. Probably the most underrated song on the the album. |

I've always taken this song as being about how everyone takes the two most complex and artistic sense, hearing and seeing, for granted. Maybe that sounds overly simple, but haven't you ever wondered about the complexity and gloriousness of those two senses? I think it's an odd sort of "stop and smell the roses" song. The two things that shape our lives most, sound and vison, are always taken for granted. I think more people would hear the song this way if they ever lost one of those two senses. |

This is a "shut up" to everyone else in Nick Drake's life in my opinion. He wanted his music to catch on in the public eye, and when his first two albums sold poorly he became depressed. He was probably tired of listening to the comforts of his friends, family, and musical peers. In the end, it's as simple as "I'll do things my way, and you do things yours. Stop trying to tell me how to live, feel, or act. I may actually enjoy my sad sack world more than you think". I could be wrong, but going off of the lyrics alone, I don't see how there could be any other interpretation. |

| Elliott Smith – Hangin Out with Me Lyrics

Without reading too closely into the lyrics (which isn't always helpful whent trying to understand Elliott), I think it's about a person who keeps saying their going to turn their life around (probably from drug or substance abuse) but keeps doing the same things they were in the past. Elliott seems to realize that he is a bad influence to his recovering friend, but still enjoys hanging out with the person.
In the end it's probably a reference to himself, but the lyrics point to someone else. Thats why it's hard to read into his lyrics, their normally abstract even though they don't seem complex at all. |

And no. While the Sin-e version is good, it is nowhere near as complete or full bodied as the Grace vesion. He even misses multiple notes in that version; I honestly think it's the worst of Grace songs on Sin-e, though it's still great. |

| Jeff Buckley – Mojo Pin Lyrics

The song is about heroin. Jeff's father, the, at the time, more popular of the two musiciains, died of a drug overdosein the early 70's, and I think this song has something to do with both the effects of the drug in relationships and on the mind in general.
The end of the first verse "If only you'd come back to me/If you laid by my side/Wouldn't need no mojo pin/To keep me satisfied" seems to be at odds with the rest of the song. I like to think of the tune as a journal of an opiate high, where the user (Jeff's dad) feels guilt about getting high, and subsequently does just that; gets high. The rest of the song seems to be interpreting the thoughts and feeling of a strung out person, with the music slowly building to a peak before crashing back down to earth.
No, Jeff wasn't a junkie, but the mojo pin, flowing white horses, and the overall mysticism that the music creates definitely point to drug use. Like most of his works, it can easily be interpreted differantly, but I think Mojo Pin is one of his "easiest to figure out" songs. |
