I would say the fourth line is "Half alive, I 'heard' the most brilliant lie." Also, the 6th line kinda sounds like "And 'dust the' mind while you burn". Otherwise, you have excellent ears.
As for what it means:
I think the general meaning would be "Lying is bad for your image". I know there's probably something more, but this is just off of a first glance and a few listens. |

Pretty much everyone is correct so far.
The REASON for making the song was that jackass at their concert.
The MEANING is being yourself despite what those fake people think of you. |

This song is a bit obvious. It's about someone who is so dedicated to this girl that, no matter what the distance is, he misses her desperately. |

I'm guessing that this song is about someone who is trying to help a friend with a drug problem. They got the friend away from the drugs at one point, but when they turned back around the friend had gone right back into it as if nothing had ever been fixed. Now that they're back in the fix, the singer can't help them anymore and there is no way out. |

I think this song has something to do with the war. Not anything to do with whether the war is right or wrong, but chronicling the experiences of what some of the soldiers who had new reltionships before they left might have ended up going through.
When they were on duty they found out that their wives/girlfriends had an affair and ended up becoming pregnant with someone else's baby.
Even though these soldiers know that the baby isn't their's they'll take care of it anyway (Your tiny hands were cold, but I wanted you anyway) and they're promising to take care of the baby no matter what happens (and I'll waste away, but I'll make sure you don't). |

| Priestess – Two Kids Lyrics

This one is a little hard to place. It's obviously a story about a couple who had children but didn't exactly want these children. The parents feel bad because they sent these children to an orphanage (I guess it's an orphanage- the Order of 'caring takes too much time'). The parents don't want these children to suffer anymore but they also don't want to have to take care of them so they kill the children and make it look as if they drowned.
Then there's the random guy who keeps telling the parents that he knows that the kids didn't drown and that he's going to find out what hapened even if it kills him (Hell no, I ain't on your side, but I'm sticking around until I die).
For the life of me, I can't find a relevant meaning here.
Also, did anyone else catch the similarities between this song and 'Sunshine of Your Love' by Cream? |

This is, by far, Chris's most 'Soundgardeny' song he has written since the breakup. I believe he also used the same voice effects in a Soundgarden song, but i'm not sure which one.
As for what the song means, I agree with the opinion that it's about coming to terms with the evils of the world. I do not, however, agree with some of the religious viewpoints here. Christianity is not the only religion to deal with lepers. One group, in particular, was the Hawaiians (before white influence). They actually sent every leper on the islands to Molokai (another Hawaiian island) and created a camp on the opposite side of the mountain so that the wind couldn't spread the disease back onto the main islands. They were just left there with no boats or any means of survival except a shelter and no one was ever allowed to be near the island.
"Then I had a dream
of an island in the sea
where the lepers die
where no one survives
and no one can hear their cries." |

Back to the point: this song rules, this band rules, and i totally agree with the Native American Chief interpretation.
Personally, I prefer Soundgarden to Audioslave simply because im not the biggest fan of RATM. It's not RATM's lyrics, i simply dislike the sound. Chris Cornell is, by far, one of the greatest lyricists and singers in the world. |

I have to agree with xvelvetxkissesx on the part about there being always being more than two opinions on any given situation.

I have to agree with Given-to-fly (except the fuck off part) It's an awesome song. The mid-east riffs are epic, I can't get enough lol. However, i could have sworn that this was sung by a woman..... oh well. Is the singer supposed to have an accent or sumthing? It sounds like she (or he) has some kind of broken English sound to them. (maybe its a song with one of those messages when you play it backward!?!?!) |

For anyone who thinks its about the apocalypse:
If you watch the music video, after the sun sucks up all the people from the beginning of the video, it shows more people with weird faces doing weird things. So if the Black Hole Sun is supposed to represent the apocalypse then there shouldn't be anymore people. It really cant be a song about the apocalypse. |

Ha! I always thought it was 'I'll hit it. Fuck you all' But these lyrics make more sense. Usually when I get a new CD, i skip through songs that i think i won't like because of the beginning. This song was one of them lol! That calm and soothing beginning is really misleading. |

Does anyone know if that weird addition at the end of the song is an extra? Like, if you play it backwards is there a message or sumthing? Its just too weird to be a normal part of the song. I'm trying to listen to it alot to see if I can find some words that make any sense.
If you haven't heard it but want to, it starts when there are exactly 45 seconds left in the song. |

Alot of the songs in the 'See You On The Other Side' album partially reference the album cover image. Sometimes i like to think that this song represents the teddy bear that the kid is holding (its head is ripped off and being taken by the horsey-guy). Part of this song is also referenced briefly in another Korn song on the same album (Seen it All: "I'm just a child with the tears in it's eyes / I am holding this gift that is broken."). As to what i think this song means, i thiink its saying to not get rid of sumthing in your life just because its 'damaged', give it a chancde to fix itself. |
