| Portal – Still Alive Lyrics | 17 years ago |

a disturbing, messed up song, and one of the, in not the, most awesome credits songs ever. Definitely very open-ended and vague, but i still love it. Of course, it's all very self-explanatory if you played the game, but i'll dissect it anyway. SPOILERS IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED. Though I doubt you'd be here if you didn't play portal. GLaDOS is happy that you destroyed her, apparently. Chell has far exceeded the AI's expectations, and pushed the program out beta with the data she has provided. GLaDOS must have learned some very important things about portals and their use while Chell was running around. The "ones who are dead" probably refer to other test subjects and Aperture science employees, and maybe our friend WCC. The neat gun obviously refers to the portal device. GLaDOS goes on to talk about the boss fight, and also says she's rather stay inside. During the fight, GLaDOS says things "What's going on out there will make you wish you were back in here!", maybe referring to the combine, or maybe she was just making it up. GLaDOS also announces that she plans to continue with her testing. It sounds as if she might have more subjects or that she might clone more. And she rubs it in our faces that she's still alive. Around the cake were more of the spheres we destroyed. They all looked like the curiousity sphere, but the color might not mean anything. This song is vague, and leaves a portal 2 a very open possiblity. |

| AFI – The Great Disappointment Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Well, here's what I always thought: Generally, as a kid, your parents dont tell you about death, and if someone you know dies, you're told that they went to "a better place". I imagine the speaker as a child who found about what death really meant before he was ready to know. He waited for his loved ones to reappear, or to catch one last glimpse of them, but it never came. He is feeling hurt and angry toward his deceivers, and devastated to finally know what it means when Grandma or anyone else "goes to a better place"... |

This song speaks to me on a deep, profound level. I think the speaker is asking for forgiveness. He's asking his loved ones to remember him for the good things he did, and to move on from bad memories. He's weaker then he lets on(I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through). The speaker admits he isn't perfect, no one is(I've never been perfect, but neither have you). He doesn't want to leave behind a legacy of hostility. Yes, he wants to be remembered, but in a good way. I'm going through the same thing. I've been distant to everyone I care about for years, and I'm paying for it. |
