this song is a fuckin drug trip man. simon wrote this when he was high man. thats why its all like poetry, and doesn't particularly make sense. there are parts when i think he remnisces about previous times he's been high and bad things have come of it: "fondness can escalate beyond my repair" potential relationship turned into a one night stand? "happiness is coated in a mindless kicking..." perhaps he was mugged while high- i know i've been kicked on the floor when i was high... fuckers broke my wrist.... "Kill your bizarre mindset, fuckhead, soldered to a three-layered concrete brainwave castration" elaborate subtext- i honestly think if you read into this song it's about him smoking pot and the conflict he has with his girlfriend. |

this song is what it says on the tin; the first two liner are inner dialogue from someone like a jock, the people on earth who aren't truly themselves, or happy, but do stuff to make themselves feel better, ie picking on people, taking speed etc. " Oh my distorted smile will tighten its grip now somebody is asking when you will disappear" i don't know who he is referring to, but the inner dialogue of this guy is that of any human jock; Confused. he's trapped in a prison of people, and is fighting an inner battle- his conscience is fucked royally about the whole thing, but he can't seem to fight the lifestyle. his conscience jumping up and down: "you have to believe yourself to be happy now you can't rely on someone else to be happy" he also refers to it as his "distorted" smile- twisted by years of manipulation by arseholes. the chorus itterates the internal battle he fights by telling him to "get fucked" "get fucked stud it's time to kill only you see the sunset on amphetamines" it's saying that he is the only jock who truly realises where he is, but simply can't break free "only you". the song continues this theme- "all hand on the courtesy cunt"- ie the preppy girls with no brains and peroxide hair who all look the same.... okay i'm done; someone can carry this on if they want! |

"This song has a creepy feeling to it... well, the entire album has. Something like the end of the world is near or something like that." its cool that SOMEONE realised this. basically, lately, i've become obsessed with something called "dystopia", (if you dont know what it is, look it up) - and basically, i feel like in the future, when i make a feature animated film about a world thrown into anarchy and dystopic settings, i'll put rage as the theme music. they mean so friggin much to me. |

I cant believe no one else thinks this!! basically, the sound of the track- riff and beat sounds totally like a dystopian soundtrack to me, like if 1984 were remade- this would almost certainly be in it- opressive government and killings in secret, but an eventual uprising. but no smoke without fire. rage is the fire. |
