Dustin Kensrue – Please Come Home Lyrics 18 years ago
Wasn't this song originally called Prodigical before the album was released?

Hatebreed – Defeatist Lyrics 18 years ago
If you read the notes in the album booklet it explain a lot about this song specifically - it's about Jamey's vices he allowed himself to fall into, and the apathy he felt for everything in the year or so before this album was released.

The whole album is effectively about him overe-coming his personal demons to regain his motivation and love for what he does, and this specific song is about him rejecting his old self. The 'defeatist' in "Defeatist, you and I will never be the same" is himself a year or so ago.

Thrice – Paper Tigers Lyrics 18 years ago
I like the reading of this as a commentary on Western - specifically American - political action, "...preach..." implies a position of power, and "...tosses..." shows the ease with which someone in an office of power can send thousands to die, with little affect on themselves.

The dictionary defintion of 'Paper Tiger' makes it even more interesting, and must be a reference to America; although one of the world's super-power's currently, it's set to collapse economically in about 10 years, and the people of America suffering as a result of politicians' actions I suppose represent the 'weakness' contrast to the 'strong' tiger of America's army.

"They light the world on fire, just to watch it burn, it'll be their funeral pyre, but they never seem to learn" - Not hugely metaphorical, it's basically saying how America's aggressive nature and heavy-handed military approach will ultimately be its own downfall.

"We paid the price, we paid for their crimes with our blood, with our lives" A plain statement that says 'we' - the lowly human beings - are suffering because of politicians actions, and ultimately many people are paying with their lives for the actions of those continually held unaccountable.

Probably lyrically my favourite song, if I ever man up enough to get a tattoo, I'll have some of these lyrics on my arm =]

Thrice – The Melting Point of Wax Lyrics 18 years ago
Physically, this song is a literay reference to The Flight Of The Icarus, as lots of people have said.

In terms of its implied meaning through this story, I see it as the pursuit of perfection, and the ultimate failure we are ultimately subject to in the search for it, but that we will always try; how will we know 'limits from life' if we don't ever push our boundaries?

The lines "Parody of an angel..." and "...the voice of reason screaming up to me..." particularly emphasise the futility of this attempt to seek perfection.

However, it's ultimately a positive song "...the melting point of wax means nothing to me..." referring to Icarus' death in an attempt to fly close to the sun, shows it is possible to dis-regard the hurdles life presents, and that to attain what we truly want, we have to take a risk, a "...leap of faith"

Awesome song =]
