My interpretation of this song is that maybe we waste too much time worrying about religion and trying to get to heaven, that we end up not living life to the full ("they won't let you say"). I believe "man in a suit" refers to God. One fine day Gonna leave you all behind It wouldn't be so bad If I had more time This bit must be referring to death and how short our life is, another reason to go out and do things to enjoy it? ("I'm gonna speak my mind") Sailing down a river alone I've been trying to find My way back home But I don't believe in magic Life is automatic But I don't mind being on my own I said that I don't mind Being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own I said I don't mind being on my own Like someone mentioned, might be to do with not believing in God or a creator ("But I don't believe in magic / Life is automatic"). I also think he's trying to say he doesn't need a God by his side (I said that I don't mind / Being on my own"). That's what I think anyway. Personally I believe in God but i have my doubts sometimes. |
