Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about alcoholism. It seems to be a song taken from the view point of the alcohol. As if the alcohol it'self is singing the song. Saying that it will always be there. For example alcoholics usually drink all the time, not only when their at the bars. So even "between the bars" she'll be there to keep you company. I don't know if I'm really making any sense but it seems as if the whole song is speaking about the effects of drinking alcohol. For example "The push, shove, wont bend to your will, I'll keep them still" to me that is speaking about the numbing effect that drinking has. Also about forgetting the pressures and all that. It could just be me, but thats kinda what i get from this song. It's a wonderful and amazing song.

Hole – Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
The real great part is how most of you are arguing about if she killed him or not about the actual song. Which is what this sight is about right? He's dead being upset about it isn't going to change it. You didn't even know him so just let it go. take your crap conspiracy theories somewhere else. Im a big fan of both bands and i think that people should just shut up and let it rest.

Metric – Siamese Cities Lyrics 18 years ago
I think its about a break up. "why do you leave me in between siamese cities". It could also be about a decision she's left with that she can't make the siamese cities could symbolize the choices she has.

Metric – Too Little Too Late Lyrics 18 years ago
I think they were very permiscuous he was probably a religous person who had a very kinky side. Always searching for feelings he couldn't find. and he tries to get her into religion but it's to late for either of them to be saved. tie my right hand to the bible is kind of telling me that she knows it isn't right but she can't say no. I also think of a homosexual lesbian relationship. "Place your swolen lips on mine" could be reffering to a different kind of lips which also makes since with the religious aspect of it. she knows its wrong but she can't help it. and also the song kind of hints at a secret love. Im not saying that Emily is a lesbian.

Metric – Raw Sugar Lyrics 18 years ago
It is baboon. "still i wear my red dress paint my toes and twirl. take you back to old times when i was still a girl. now im a BABOON, boys cootchie cootchie coo sort of wonder why i missed a kiss for you" It's saying that she doesn't feel much like a girl anymore but more as some sort of zoo animal or carnival attraction. maybe feels as if she's just being used. Well i think this song is about her wanting a simple life. She is with a man who is never home ( it is my baby come home not i pay to call home) and she just wants to get away with him and live a simple life.

Metric – Grow Up and Blow Away Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok so this is about a man and a woman who love each other but are haveing problems. They could help each other but they are both preoccupied with there own things? "if she were not writing in blood she's bring him her jokes a new liver and a shovel for the mud" and " if he were not knee deep in mud he'd bring her his jokes he'd get her a type writer" See they can help each other a shovel to get him out of the mud and a type writer so she wouldn't have to write in her blood. They are both slowly dying (mud:quicksand, blood:bleeding to death) and can save each other if only they could get away from their problems. they are probably both very successful people living the good life but they are depressed unable to connect to each other. the lyric "grow up and blow away" im not thinking explosion but more like a dandelion blowing away in the wind. Once you grow up your gone.

Metric – Glass Ceiling Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the song is about rebeling against the mundane life. The glass ceiling is our confinement and as long as it's there we can never escape. If you break the glass ceiling you're going to get cut "lose your arms, amputate plasticine", but if you don't do it no one else will "there's no knight in silver armor shining". Finally the last part of the song reminds me of crowded streets (think of Tokyo) everyone is moving but it seems there never really going anywhere. THey have no were else to go it's the only way they know "we can't leave it's the last road open" and finally "everyspeed on our knees is crawling" that right there sums it up. As long as you are on your knees you aren't making any progress because no matter how fast you go when your on your knees it's always considered crawling.

Metric – Empty Lyrics 18 years ago
In my oppinion this song is all about love and heartbreak. "There's no way out, the only way out is to give in" that there tells me that there relationship is suffering. She's tired of always fighting and all that's left for her to do is to give in but she's ok with it because she loves him. Then comes the next part when the relationship seems to be ending. "Here no one sleeps one lays up while the other lyes down" I think of a couple in bed. Neither is sleeping they are both awake and all though their bodies are close they feel distant and alone. "we couldn't see what was coming" They didn't expect the realtionship to end. And finally in the last part when she's singing "sickness was fixing me some, coughed out my heart in the last stall. Now that the damage is done, I never miss it at all" that tells me that now that the relationship is over she's fine. Before it was if she were sick. Either love sick or sick of the relationship and now that she "coughed" out her heart she's able to move on. She says she doesn't miss it at all but i think she really still loves him.
