My view is that the song is written personally to a person who has killed themselves (wasted life). The subject of the song IS dead ("Your body may be gone, I’m going to carry you in -In my head, in my heart, in my soul") Maybe the suicide thought it was no big deal, because heaven or another life awaits them - and perhaps they will see each other again. But the writer sees it differently - he's not sure if heaven or reincarnation exist, so killing yourself and taking that chance is foolish. Being in jail is perhaps a metaphor for any bad thing that can happen - the writer chose to make it a positive by using the time to think, while the suicide apparently chose to focus on the negative, and take another way out. In addition, the writer focuses on what tremendous events the subject missed as a reslut of their death -(The world folding in on itself, ocean meeting the sky, etc.) At the end, the writer is hopeful that, for the sake of the suicide, there really is some kind of afterlife, but unfortunately, the other person might be likely to 'waste' the afterlife as they did their life. All of the lines about the ocean and its taste, feel, etc. is a request from the writer that the suicide take something from this world, and cherish and remember it in the next (if there is a next.) |

I'm no expert on the band (although my ex-gf was), but the sarcasm in the song seems obvious to me. It's more obvious when you add the video: Sheep who are about to be slaughtered leading happy, oblivious lives right up until their horrible end. I can't say if the song is advocating being ignorant for the sake of bliss, but it seems that way. Don't worry about what is happening or what is going to happen, just be happy and float on. |

IT's definitely about making some kind of mistake, discovering it won't work out, and then agreeing to just move on, pretend it didn't happen, and keep it 'off the record'. The instrumental part in the middle is super smooth and psychedelic. Love it. |

THre may be some religious meanings in the lyrics, but I cannot escape the importance of "Cydonia" in the lyrics. Cydonia has no other meaning besides the area on Mars' surface whre it has been speculated that intelligent life may have once existed. Perhaps the"knights of cydonia" are the remnants of that destroyed civilization, warning us not to waste time, or time will waste us - like it did them. |
