Well, it's definitely got an erotic vibe to it... A boy named Chan Chan and a girl named Juanica travel throughout Cuba searching for sand to build a house with. They finally arrive at the perfect beach and set about sifting the sand to remove the pebbles. Things begin to get more tense however, when Juanica begins to shake her sieve. Chan Chan can't help but notice her body moving rhythmically beneath the folds of her dress. The feelings this sight elicits from him soon fill him with shame and he leaves the beach hurriedly, seeking shelter beneath a tree (to masturbate perhaps, who knows?). P.S. This song was originally issued as a split single along with another Velvets' cover by the Melvins (''Venus in Furs'') in 1991, just before Nevermind. I've heard it described as a "seven-line thesis on the possibility that a girl might cum". (Nothing ground-breaking here.) It's impossible to say exactly what Cobain had going on in his head while he was singing but Lou Reed compositions can usually be taken at face value. Also, though the Nirvana boys do a typically great performance, this version somewhat lacks the humour and the knowing smirk of the original. P.S. Individuals with strong stomachs and open minds should check the Velvets' ''White Light/White Heat'', the album where ''Here She Comes Now'' first made its appearance. Happy listening. |
