this radiohead song is about trendy bands who are making music only to earn money. Faust was a doctor that sold his soul to the devil (mephistophelis) just to stay young forever. In the other hand Arp was the name of a founding member of the Dada movement that stood against world war II. In this song radiohead are trying to show how bands today are making silly, trendy, love or romantic songs that have nothing to offer to a human being, just to be famous and rich ( exactly as Faust sold his soul). this message is strongly passed through the lines "what you feel not what you ought to....". The dominos also reffer to the bands and their songs which no one remebers after a smallamount of time. as for the elephants i think that they symbolize the music companies that are popping like mushrooms to provide to the bands an oportunity to sale their crap! |

someone said to me that on in this song it is so obvious that radiohead are influenced by u2.......except from the lyrics.....and thoms voice....... and the electronic stuff that is heard in the backround...... i couldnt agree more!! |

why do I give valuable time
to people who don't care if I live or die- for me this is the best line in the whole song... it is so true tha pain and pleasure are stricly connected. we fell in love with people who dont care about us when we are willing to give our lives for them. i think its very sad when we can see the others perspective about ourselfs and we still cannot change our feelings about them... |
