@[elurker:53952] I thought that too, but in every interview on youtube from the time, it seems like Paul is smoking, so wouldn't be complaining about someone else, |

Sharon has said this song was about a working girl in King's Cross she observed when she first moved to Australia. She'd come home at 3am from a a gig at in Newcastle or somewhere like that, and this woman would always be standing outside the bank of new south wales there. |

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song, |

> And find my friends all live there still
It's wishing you could go back to those times, and wishing it be like it was, when the reality is you have moved on, and everyone else has as well. It's that feeling. |

I've always thought of this song as if it's sung while she lies in bed next to her partner, who's sleeping, and she's going thru the process of deciding the relationship is finished as she cant really ever connect with that person because they're never truly emotionally available when she needs it. |

I think the dash-7 plane references are a metaphor for a failing relationship. |
