In my Opinion: (Im referring to the person the narrator is talking about as a SHE to make it easier) Consternation is defined as a "paralyzing state of dismay" I believe this song is about someone the narrator really cares for. She's a large part of his life or he at least wants her to be. Looking at it like that shows two different ways the song can be interpreted: -She is changing and falling away from him. -He is trying to be in her life, and fails. For the first: "Wave-Burn" Him waving and her back being turned signifies a breaking of their relationship. If he cant successfully attempt to regain the relationship, all is lost. "Saw - Incarnate" Seeing her in the lamp glow may signify she the only one he's sees. She's very important. She fades. Nothingness Incarnate. She's gone. "Until - be" Not sure in this case. Until he comes to terms he's going to keep to himself. "Consternation - Course" Feeling very dismal about the situation. Everything is now different than what is was suppose to be like. As for the second case: She doesn't know his desire for her. He sees her and only her. She continues not to notice him and moves on. Until he can have her...he'll remain under the radar. Consternation, Paralyzing Dismay. He loses her for good. Things aren't the way he wanted them to be. Just my interpretation. One of my favorite Katatonia songs. |

In my Opinion: It's about something immoral the narrator did...something very bad...but not unnecessarily causing lots of death. I think the whole "no one will survive" is just used to show how powerful his regret is. He knows what he did was wrong and understand it, has come to terms with it, but doesnt want it to spread any further, thus he says the man who did it got away. And since he has come to terms, he just wants to move on. He doesnt need people breathing down his neck over it...or have the situation continued to be discussed (keep it quite here. I will not tolerate your noise) He is also deep down waiting hope and needing someone or something to tell him he can stop beating himself up over it so he can live again. |

In my Opinion: (Im just referring to the person the narrator is talking about as a HER to make it easier.) It's about a shameful person...or just not someone you'd feel god about knowing. "Vapour - it comes from you" Stating that he's not the problem and that the person he is referring to is. Not a literal illness. Just a very apparent personality fault. "Soul cold - Ignorance" Narrator could be very close to the person he is talking about. It depresses him to see her like this. Maybe she has changed. He's trying to rid himself of worry about the situation. Increasing his ignorance. Or maybe the person is becoming more ignorant to her own fault. Could be a few things here. "Please - So unworthy- Narrator wants the person to take a hard look it herself. Maybe she will realize the harm she is causing and should be ashamed (mask of shame). "Find - Earth" Bending reality to what she wants to happen. Caring only for herself. Only hearing what she wants to hear. Final line im not too sure about. Her anger,hate etc. has become so part of her life its now part of and everyday cycle. It has consumed her. And there is is. |
