Regina Spektor – Hero Lyrics 14 years ago
I don't think this song is happy AT ALL. I'm pretty sure this song as about how we grow up thinking we're going to really BE something, and how we build up this ideal in our mind that isn't possible. And how when we don't reach it, because we can't, because we're human, that it's OKAY. But what's not okay is not even trying. Just wanting the easy way out. Just going with the flow. Going to "these meetings" but "not doing any meeting." We're the hero to all of our stories -- there is no being saved. Thinking that being saved is any different in any way from being lost is a fantasy -- the same kind that we've been conditioned to believe. We're force fed all this shit, this "original sin" like in the bible, from birth. It's, at least in my mind, a seriously significant song. But yeah, it blends into Bartender well too XD

Florence + the Machine – Throwing Bricks Lyrics 14 years ago
I feel that this song is about a woman who created this perfect image in her head, this ideal man that she took solace in. But, she put so much of herself into it, that she could no longer be comforted by the image, something made only of imagination. So she gave up on it. And it wasn't sad, nor was it happy, it was just an end.

Because a lot of music is about rape. People aren't sick, they're realistic.

Chris Garneau – Fireflies Lyrics 14 years ago
It's not easy, so take it slow.
You're coming up. You're coming round the bend.
You're my good friend. Best friend.
And you're coming up, you're coming round the bend

I feel Chris is talking to someone, a best friend, who is 'coming around the bend' or accepting either that he, himself is gay, or that Chris is.

You're making friends with the fireflies.
I can't say that that comes as a surprise.
But the things they say are not what they seem,
So you've been called to tell us what they mean.
Yes, you've been called to tell us what they mean.

Fireflies is a nice term for faghags. Thus, if he's his best friend, making friends with other friends isn't weird. OR, he's obviously gay, so it's not weird or unexpected. BUT, they're gossipy 'The things they sat are not what they seem.'

It's a plot though, I told you so.
I'm wising up. I'm wising up to them.
They say, "My good friends. Best friends."
But I'm wising up. I'm wising up to them.

The 'fireflies' are attempting to get them together. A plot. But he's realizing.

You're making friends with the fireflies.
You know when they die their light stays alive.
And the things they say are not what they seem,
So you've been called to tell us what they mean.
Yes, you've been called to tell us what they mean.

There's a crap load of gossip now, even when they and the fireflies are no longer friends, it still follows them around.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Poor Song (Porcelain) Lyrics 14 years ago
The last line really isn't a hipster line.
It's more... pseudo arrogance.
Like.
'God damn, we're so cool. Because we're nearing the age you no longer get carded and still play sims' cool.
Not that I am, but I do know a couple of 'cool kids' in that vein.
It's more of a 'I'm totally like you, so we should hang out. Because that makes us cool.'
Freaks of a feather flock together.
Totally call this song being played at my wedding. No lies.

Sunset Rubdown – Idiot Heart Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about someone who loves another person, but they're rooted, per se, to deep in their place; Their shitty home town is their palace, and they've already reached their peak. It's about letting go, letting that feeling of ownership die... er drown. To stop getting so damn caught up in the stream of things and be free.

The Fray – Over My Head (Cable Car) Lyrics 16 years ago
I think that this song is about a friend whose so caught up in a girl that he loses sight what matters most. I.e 'lose sight of the ground in the turn around'. Instead of trying to re-conciliate, they just keep drifting apart, until they just blow up and fight it out.

Beck – Orphans Lyrics 16 years ago
'Think I'm stranded but I don't know where
I got this diamond that don't know how to shine'

Wonderful ideas, or intentions, but no actions to back them up or flesh them out.

'In the sun where these dark winds wail
And these children leave their rulers behind
As we cross ten leagues from a Rubicon
With matchsticks for my bones'

Rubicon is a river in Italy, and was illegal to cross. Having done so, it would be foolish, but 'necessary'.

If we could learn how to freeze ourselves alive
We could learn to leave these burdens to burn

Easy solution, but impossible none the less.

'Cast out these creatures of woe
Who shattered themselves
Fighting a fire with your bare hands'

Get rid of the old, self-destructive nature of things, instead of just waiting for it to go away(i.e fighting a fire with your bare hands)

'Now my journey takes me further south
I want to hear what the blind men sing
With their fossils and their gypsy bones'

Government. Blind men believing in blind faith. I'm not positive, but I'm quite sure gypsy bones where used to tell fortunes.

I'll stand beside myself so I'm not alone

Anyone else feel like they're the only one that thinks their right? No?

'And how can I new again
What rusts every time it rains?'

You do something, but it was really for nothing, because the figurative rain messes it up constantly.

'And the rain it comes and floods our lungs
We're just orphans in a tidal wave's wake'

Little orphans, big fuckin' waves. Getting mauled over by something bigger than yourself, something that doesn't give a crap about you.

'If I wake up and see my maker coming
With all of his crimson and his iron desire'

Possibly taxes? Lol. The world always wants SOMETHING from ya.

'We'll drag the streets with the baggage of longing'

wanting is a heavy weight, and drags you down when you least want it to.

'To be loved or destroyed
From a void to a grain of sand in your hand'

People can do you good, or great evil. A void, nothing, and a grain of sand, something, no matter how small.

Well, that's about it. Beautiful song, wonderful lyrics, just my opinion~
