the man in the blue suit is def the current administration. Its about the state of affairs...how "the man" is using religion as a tool to mask their OBSCENE and painfully obvious profiteering of the war. Also, It seems to me that our homes are falling to shit and ruin while GIGANTIC temples are popping up on every fucking corner, nowadays...its saying WAKE UP!! You are all being played!! "Blind your eyes watchin' sunbeams the purebread beasts wait, lickin' their chops" Is referring to the "ELITE"... bankers, politicians, lawyers, evangelist, ceo's....keeping you barely alive as a parasite to a host..Very reminiscent of PINK FLOYD's- Animals...same subject as TOOL"S- opiate, right in two and SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM's- The creature, freedom club....if you dont know them, look em up! "Religion"=Weapon of MASS distraction...HEY!!...LOOK OVER HERE!! Its VERY hard just cutting even being a non commercial rock act. Its draining, both financially and mentally... The move to roadrunner insured the survival of Opeth. The absinthe minded would be the fans/scene. Absinthe=jaded/stoned/tripping/ drunk and or close- minded. |

honestly, i think the whole album (- iso years) is about the overall health of Opeth and trying to hold on to their roots but evolving at the same time. This song, in particular, addresses the move to roadrunner records and some fans thinking they have sold out. "Reverie / Harlequin Forest" meaning-laughing stock of death/black metal) BRILLIANT METAPHOR! |

Call me crazy but I believe Rosemary is the widow from my arms, your hearse concept....her husband has just died and this would be the letter to a male friend(secret admirer) telling of her sorrow. The narrator is the other man in MAYH. This song is a prelude to MAYH. She prob kinda had feelings for this man in the past. The man feels he will finally get his chance with her after many years of being secretly in love w/ her. Mikael flipped the script...Genius!! Interesting, Rosemary has been used as a metaphor for "a lie" or "lying woman" and also "blood"-not that its related or anything. |

From what i gather, the song is about the lure of rock n roll...Patton's character is a sleazy devilish manifestation of rock n roll. The "40 years older" part points to the birth of rock..1950's...kill my mother has always been associated with "devil music". "Edge of the world"..referring to touring....and a bands primary market target..."little girlies".....call me crazy, but it all points to "buy me" Patton's metaphors....gotta love em! What an AWESOME song/album/band!!! |
