Ryan Adams – Come Pick Me Up Lyrics 12 years ago
I showed this song to a girl I had just met at a concert/festival late one evening. It's funny; in my uncharacteristically pessimistic way, I guess maybe I subconsciously thought it might be relevant, but as it turns out, this girl was so much fun to hang out with, and was amazingly generous (albeit, all in the very short time we spent together). But maybe I just wanted to show her the song because it is so fuckin good.

Ironically, she is, in my drunken memory, the antithesis of who he is singing about. But the song totally brings me back to that night (you left your pipe in my car, by the way, haha).

Like the total drunken moron I was that night, I never got her last name, or contact info. Just a quick, blurry selfie of us. Oh well, if you happen to read this, I want to say thanks for hanging out with me that night. You're fun!!

Kings of Leon – Red Morning Light Lyrics 16 years ago
To misshapen chaos, I agree, thier sound has definitely evolved. As far as what songs to recommend, subjectively speaking, the first two albums for sure and maybe some of the third. The rest is great too but so different from when they first started. You will do yourself a huge favour to give these guys a chance; there's not much out there like this stuff!! And if there is I would LOVE for someone to show me, always up for hearing new music suggested by others.

Donovan Frankenreiter – Call Me Papa Lyrics 17 years ago
It's all about the baby now. Never really understood until my boy was born. I would literally do ANYTHING to keep this sweet angel from harm. I always loved this song anyway but now it makes me cry like a 5 year old since he was born.

Kings of Leon – Dusty Lyrics 17 years ago
Old for sure. Maybe I haven't listened to it enough but the new album doesn't do it for me. Who knows, maybe it will grow on me but there is nothing like the raw, hard edged sound of the first (sort of the second) album. Of course, this is all a matter of opinion. Great song, sorry I don't have a meaning.

Kings of Leon – Happy Alone Lyrics 17 years ago
Does anyone else have a reeeaaalllyy hard time deciphering the words to a lot of KOL songs? And I don't mean finding the meaning behind them, I mean making out what the f@#k Caleb is saying. I love it just the same....and this truely is a great driving song.

Billy Joel – Don't Ask Me Why Lyrics 18 years ago
His voice is (or can be) very similar to Mccartneys. Listen to the first few lines of Vienna to hear the similarity most (IMHO).

Warren Zevon – Gorilla, You're a Desperado Lyrics 18 years ago
The character in the song is as much a prisoner as the the Gorilla in the zoo but, instead, a prisoner of the material world, spritually caged by the spoils.

I think a lot of this song is esoteric. But hey, that's the beauty of it; to sort of see something or feel something the artist sees or feels that you wouldn't see in him even if you knew the guy personnally. Very revealing. I don't know if that made sense, all I know is my favorite line is "But except in dreams you're never really free". Probably my favorite WZ tune.

Warren Zevon – Johnny Strikes Up The Band Lyrics 18 years ago
I often thought the Johnny in this song might be John Lennon and the band he strikes up would be, of course, none other than Elephants Memory (heehee, just kidding, the Beatles). I'm a big W.Z. fan but this was never one of my favs.

Billy Joel – All You Wanna Do Is Dance Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the ooo lalala after the 'Beatles line (a la 'Nowhere Man' or 'You Won't See Me'). I often thought this would be a good cover tune for a newer band but I guess some of the lyrics are somewhat dated. Aaahhh, to be back in the good old days, 'when tomatoes were cheaper'. just the right amount of cheese as always Bill.

Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics 18 years ago
To natalieclodfelter:
I saw Glenn Frey in an interview with Bob Costas about 15 years ago and he stated that the line is indeed a dig at Stelly Dan. There is a song called 'Everything You Did' by S.D. that is about a couple having an argument or something. Anyway, one line in the song is 'turn up the Eagles, the neighbors are listening'. The Eagles decided to dig back with the 'steely knives' line. I don't think it was anything malicious in either case, just a tip of the hat more than anything.
