To me the song is about the rising and falling waves of consciousness/relationship. When you get above the water, you can both look at each other and know that you love each other and it is so easy. But inevitably you will sink again and not be able to remember what is important. Then you will do silly things and ignore important ones. I think this is what is meant in the second verse, if he is underwater and doing it wrong will they please pull him out where he can breath again before something bad happens. It seems like the writer is at a peak with someone, but knows they will go under and lose each other eventually. I think the shallow water is where he can stay up for good, but it is always just out of reach. Also, listen carefully for what sounds like a door swinging open. |

I thought the first two lines of the chorus went: "so you said good-bye, But you meant good lie" Somehow that stuck me harder. But his lines are amazing of course, as always. |

This is the greatest song of all time as far as I'm concerned. i can't decide if it's a million people clapping at once or someone is raking 10,000 marbles to make this noise. Someone told me that this whole song is made of people singing distorted with a sine wave pattern. Opinions? |
