the irony of the title "the overachievers" when most of the activities in the song accomplished very little in reality |

way to lay it down. it's really not that obvious, but that's definitely what this is. im glad to see this realistic why? interpretation, because his songs are obviously not "its about him being sad about his girlfriend" or some shit. |

| Black Lips – O Katrina! Lyrics

i'm thinking this is kind of poking fun of the american tradition of demonizing natural occurances..like 'katrina, you bastard!'..you know, it's a hurricane; it's more natural than a sub-sea-level superpopulated city. not that the deaths aren't at all tragic; it's just that to try to place the blame on the big mean hurricane is kinda ridiculous. although that explanation seems a lil too serious for the black lips. they some ironic ass sonsobitches. |

| The Moldy Peaches – These Burgers Lyrics

see, the moldy peaches like to be just a weensy bit ironic..how could they possibly be making fun of hipsters? just look at adam green. hes got to be one of the biggest hipsters ive ever seen. it's more like a parody of the seriousness with which some people try to attack the whole hipster thing, and also, a riff on how ridiculous it is for a hipster to write an anti-hipster song. they use an intentionally retarded metaphor for conformity (prefab molded hamburgers) to jokingly show how dumb and contrived some anti-hipster attacks get. the whole second verse is mocking the self seriousness. its really not a big deal. theyre some people, and they dress this way. they're not trying to bring you into the fold or change your ways, theyre just hipsters being hipsters doing stupid hipster shit. |
