Send More Paramedics – Zombie Crew Lyrics 14 years ago
A great tune with great lyrics! Fantastic to mosh to. So glad I got to see this undead band before they disbanded. This song had the place going f-ing mental!

As for the meaning it obviously about being a teenage zombie going to a gig despite being deceased and possibly eating some brains too.

Oasis – (It's Good) To Be Free Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is fan-fucking-tastic. One of the greatest Oasis songs of all time. The arrogance and swagger in it is unbelievable. It's all about being yourself and not giving a fuck about those "fakers" all around. A quality tune by undoubtedly the best band of a generation

The Cranberries – Zombie Lyrics 15 years ago
As has been said a million times before, it is without doubt about the troubles in Ireland which thankfully are no largely over but weren't at the time Zombie was released. Now my personal interpretation is it's mainly focussing on the terrorist (or paramilitaries if you want to condone the purposeful killings of innocent civilians which both the unionists and nationalists indulged in with abandonment). Sure the British army weren't always sweetness and roses but at least they didn't plant bombs in busy town centres on saturdays or threaten to shoot catholic school children.. So I don't think it's about the British presence or the armed forces. I think it's about the murdering of innocents under the guise of these small minority groups "representing" their community essentially on the guise of religion. The 1916 does relate to the Irish war of independence nicely so maybe there is an anti-British thing in there but there's been religous based fighting in Ireland since the 1600s and people still carry this hatred of Catholics/Protestants on to this day.

The song's trying to get across the despair in the situation of the majority of the people and how this "justification" for all this combat and the killings is "all in their heads" and just a throw back to a time long gone. Kind of like: "Why are you still doing this and causing so much pain?"

And before Republicans accuse me of being British (I am), or worse English, I'm from Glasgow ;)

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Love Burns Lyrics 17 years ago
Obviously abouk a break up I think. Agree with the previous comments. Break up of a relationship that was once really good hence the lyrics in the first, third and first line of last verse "Never thought I'd leave you like the way I do, yeah". The third verse tho also contains negatives in an alternating pattern. Relationship was bad at the end perhaps. Still loves the girl hence the love burns inside me... part. But ultimately glad to be out of it.

A thing that most people will experience I think! A break up where the relationship was bad and at the time you're glad to be out but afterwards you miss the person and wonder. Thinking about "the good times" etc.

Pulp – Pencil Skirt Lyrics 17 years ago
Correct lyrics as posted before!

When you raise your pencil skirt
Like a veil before my eyes
Like the look upon his face as he's zipping up his flies
Well I know, that you're engaged to him
Oh, but I know, you want something to play with baby

I'll be around when he's not in town, oh
Yeah, I'll show you how you're doing it wrong, oh
I really love it when you tell me to stop, oh
Oh it's turning me on.

Now you can tell us some lies about the good times that you've had
But I've kissed your mother twice and now I'm working on your dad, oh baby

I'll be around when he's not in town, oh
Yeah, I'll show you how you're doing it wrong, oh
I really love it when you tell me to stop, oh
Oh it's turning me on.

If you look under the bed then I can see my house from here
So just lie against the wall
Watch my conscience disappear, now baby

Yeah, I'll be around when he's not in town, oh
Oh yeah, I'll show you how you're doing it wrong, oh
I really love it when you tell me to stop, oh
Oh it's turning me on, yeah.

I only come here 'cause I know it makes you sad
I only do it 'cause I know you know it's bad
Oh, don't you know it's ugly and it shouldn't be like that, but
Oh, but, oh, it's turning me on.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – (Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For? Lyrics 18 years ago
I've felt you coming, girl, as you drew near
I knew you'd find me, 'cause I longed you here

He's been looking for someone to love and who'll love him in a pure way. Strange when you consider Nick Cave's reputation with women but I think the whole sleeping with so soon part has cheapened the women in his life and he's looking for something different. I don't know how to articulate it properly but I relate to it so much, the entire song.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – (Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For? Lyrics 18 years ago
I think CherryBomB13 has is spot on and chazangel has an excellent point in the world expecting so much...

I've had a life that hasn't been easy and I've been hurt but I relate so much to the lyrics as CherryBomb interprets them. That's what it means to me. He's asking, to himself more than anyone else, if this person is the one to fall in love with, who he's going to be with, the person who'll make everything all right. But he's questioning it because he's been hurt and because Holywood etc almost enforces on you it's idea of what love should be.

In the last verse however he decides, and very rightly, that if he's questioning it it won't be and he has to put his faith (doubling up with the Jesus quote) in it. The last verse is truly beautiful and is almost enough to make me cry in context with the rest of the song in the way I relate to it.
