I believe this song is about how people evolved from these beasts from the ocean, all that's all we are; beings that evolved from other beings. The part about God, as I see it, is people fearing that we are just living and will eventually die. No afterlife or miracles, and they will dedicate their entire lives to this lie, and in the end they're dead anyways. I think the part about God and the beast is a comparison of the two sides of one being; evil and good. The part at the end is more or less his own struggles with this concept. I guess to make it short, it's more about giving in to this "lie" of christianity for the comfort or facing up but living the rest of your life with no end result. I don't know, I love this song, it did a lot for me in terms of my faith. |
