I can understand your confusion, after all, it is such an esoteric song. Anyways, on one hand, I think both Shadow and Major have hit the nail on the head, but on the other, missed completely. I believe that this song is merely a tribute to the giant monster who's lived as a hero for children and inner-children all over the world for over a half a century, no real deeper meaning behind it. However, Godzilla has always been a powerful metaphor for the destructive consequinces of man's practices, whether it be from nuclear power or pollution. "History shows again and again how nature points up the folly of man" is practically a quote from the movies. |

| That's how I've always seen it. I'm not sure about her leaving him, however that is one interpretation. It could also be that he was called away for business or military reasons. It could also be a tale of touring life and the loved ones lost through it. | |

I've heard the Metallica version and I must say it is decent. Their vocals and style do work well with the song, they do seem to blend well, but purely on a musical sense. The lyrics blend well with a metal sound. However, BOC has a more soulful texture that really gives the song its meaning. In other words, if you just want something fun to listen to, go with Metallica. If you want the full experience, go for BOC. Getting back to the meaning, I was always under the impression it was about an insane asylum. Lines such as "As acid and oil on a mad man's face" are allusions to a hallucination. Also "Two doors locked and windows barred, one door let to take you in, the other one just mirrors it" describing the barred windows and doors only accessable by administration, such as Miss Carrie nurse. Granted, I know the song's drafted from select verses from Sandy Pearlman's poem "The Soft Doctrine of Immaginos," but it's still fun to speculate. |

Well... Rush fans apparently get very defensive about writing credit. Anyways, I have two ways of looking at this song. 1) It's about taking blossoming love to the next level. It's about a couple growing closer together, more comfortable with each other, and learning everything about the other rather than just the pretty face they put on. 2) It's about a couple that's been together for some time and have come to realize that they are two entirely different people. The point he's getting at is that they are in love and rather than let their differences get in the way and drive them away, they could learn from their differences and expand their horizons. The spaces in between leave room for the two of them to grow. |

If you think this is way too long, apparently they had to tone down the original verson. It was, as they put it, "crazy" and took up 1/3 of the CD. I personally love this piece. It's one of their best instrumentals and is quite possibly the highlight of their concert. The ending doesn't seem to fit, it seems a little anticlimactic, but the rest is amazing! |

I got the joy of witnessing the South Park intro and I must say, it was the best intro I have ever seen. I would recommend looking it up on YouTube or some other video-sharing website. On a related note, if you notice, Kenny's the drummer. Anyone seen Spinal Tap? |
