The quote at the beginning of the song has much meaning as well. It's form the movie 1984, spoken by a former "criminal" who had his brain washed in Room 101. I think the song has much to do with living in a life where one is totally controlled by expectations and external forces. I think that the "you" of "the day you died I list my way" is actually himself.
If you've read the book 1984 or read the movie, I think this song has just as much meaning as understnading the song to be about death of a friend/loved one. |

I applaud Vehementi- greatly on his post. VNV Nation has, for long, been my favorite band. I just recently finished reading Julius Caesar and this song took a WHOLE new meaning to me. Fans of VNV Nation should check out the German group Wolfsheim. |

Okay... maybe I'm just a huge Rammstein fan, but anyone who has the "Sehnsucht" CD knows the English version matches what is above. I know the original is "you have me" but I think they guessed the American audience's taste well by changing it to "hate". We're a bunch of bloody lunatics in the USA! |
