| Memoryhouse – The Waves Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| An interesting piece of instrumentation. I was disappointed to see it dropped from the rereleased EP. | |
| Memoryhouse – Bonfire Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| The correct lyric is "All our wonder unavenged", not "all I wonder unavenged". Seems minor, but "all our wonder unavenged" is a reference to the title of a poetry compilation by Don Domanski. Memoryhouse lyrics are actually filled with little asides like that... | |
| Memoryhouse – To the Lighthouse Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Suddenly seeming These eggshell ribs Caving into your hands Can't sustain this breathing It weighs on my chest These lungs are filled with water from the tide From the tide And I Watch them go by Can't define a purpose All hands set adrift In eyelids, cobwebs forming Coalesce through the vapor Some strange trembling gas In sleep I dream of houses in the sky In the sky And I Watch them go by Sometimes I'm pulled away From my own misery Your hands cover me Eyes drift slowly Sleep the summer chill In sheets of linen Hush the static sound Of time dispersing Sometimes I'm pulled away From my own misery Your hands cover me Eyes drift slowly Sleep the summer chill In sheets of linen Hush the static sound Of time dispersing |

| Broken Social Scene – Pacific Theme Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This one song has more magic in it than most bands see in their entire career. This is BSS's high-water mark for me (and most of their other stuff is very very good too). |

| Fleet Foxes – False Knight on the Road Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is actually a cover of an ancient Scottish folk song, likely originating from the MIddle Ages. Songs like this are known as the "Child ballads"; the name comes from the man who documented them sometime in the late 1800s. This one in particular has been done by a number of other modern artists - it isn't original to Fleet Foxes. They do a really nice version of it though. "Fause Knight" - with the 'u' - is the correct spelling. In the traditional interpretation the "knight" is Satan. | |
| U2 – Promenade Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Probably one of their most underrated songs. I find it means something different to everyone. It reminds me of Michigan and the beaches on the west coast of the state. | |
| Sufjan Stevens – They Also Mourn Who Do Not Wear Black (For the Homeless in Muskegon) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song reminds me of Muskegon, and Michigan in general. Beautiful, and hopeful, even with a tanking economy and growing poverty. | |
| Echo and the Bunnymen – Nocturnal Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
For some reason this song always reminds me of tsarist Russia circa 1900. In my mind's eye - I wasn't there, of course - but still. I can't pin down how or why, but that's what I get out of it. |
