| Billy Joel – Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) Lyrics

I think this song basically represents the realization of "enough is enough" - that is, somebody realizing that 'moving up' may not be what's best for them. So instead of 'moving up' and being unhappy with the costs of doing so, they 'move out' and get out of the situation; they make things better for themselves. This song represents a person deciding that "hey, this isn't going to work for me, and this isn't worth it - I'm getting out of this situation and giving myself a better life." |

crdesg, thanks so much for phrasing what you said the way you did. As a freshman in band, I knew that the two lines you mentioned were musical references (as well as "She never missed a cue or lost a beat"), but I never put two and two together and realized that the actual title of the song has dual meanings: the more obvious one, that says "It's okay that she's coming back now, she's just in time for me, I don't mind that she left and came back," but also the more subtle, musically-referenced one: being in time, musically. So thanks for indirectly pointing that out, I never noticed that, but I think it's pretty cool. (: |

lilamishgirl26, yeah, I've seen the video...I agree, it is a bit weird. My dad says that was MTV trying to do weird things; I say the director *may* have been on LSD, lol! Great song, though - the line "You used to call me paranoid...pressure...but even you cannot avoid...pressure" reminds me of one of my friends and I. I'm one to get stressed pretty easily and worry about pressure, etc., but she used to NEVER be stressed. But this year, in high school, even she is getting stressed. So, she used to say I worried too much, etc., but even she couldn't avoid it, unfortunately. |

This song is amazing. I heard a live version of this song first, and I thought it was great, but hen I heard the studio version, and it just blew me away. Billy's voice in this one is actually a bit relaxing. |

I love this song - it reminds me of me a lot. The line "And every time I've held a rose, it seems I only felt the thorns..." reminds me of my often-pessimism and how I often automatically see the negative side of something. Silence is definitely one of my self-defenses. And every time I talk to somebody and try not to worry about what I'm saying & how I'm saying it, being all paranoid, etc., I ALWAYS feel like I said too much, and I go back to being quiet and somewhat withdrawn, until the next time I try to carry on a normal conversation with someone I'm a little nervous to talk to, or talking about a topic I'm nervous to talk about, etc. You get it. "And this is why my eyes are closed, it's just as well for what I've seen," reminds me of how I sometimes see things in such a view of despair. |
