I think the lyrics in this song can far exceed the scene in Los Angeles, as some people have stated in their comments, I think it is meant for the entire western civilization, if not, for people all over the world. In my opinion, it talks of those who claim to be non-conformists, but conform to another type of lifestyle, just; it’s not the ‘mainstream’ way. And then they contemptuous towards those who have constantly looked down their noses at the self-proclaimed ‘non-conformists’ they judge those who have judged them all their lives, looking down their noses at others. All they know how to do is talk, they haven’t really experienced much, they know what you can learn from books, or magazines. ‘Prototypical nonconformist’ - typical non-conformist, they really aren’t individuals, as they probably claim to be. ‘Don’t stick your nose up at me’ -showing their stuck up natures They’re people who sit in circles with friends and have their little ‘intellectual’ conversations. Each one of them wants to be that one person to take the spotlight and just say something which everybody is in awe over, to be in the spotlight. They think they’re better than those ‘normal’ people (whoever they are), and they laugh at them, judge them. It’s the same attitude they’ve had to fight against throughout their lives. Just, another form of control for them – to put down others who they think are conformists, or empty-headed, not realising they are completely hypocritical. Cause I’m proud of my life and the things that I have done Proud of myself and the loner I’ve become You’re free to whine, it will not get you far I do just fine, my car and my guitar There, he’s talking about himself, how he’s not adhering to any standards, he’s just doing his own thing, and he’s proud of it all.
