Strange how such a seemingly repetitive song can be so exhilirating...

Arcade Fire – Neon Bible Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the decision to name the album Neon Bible is an interesting one and one that can be analysed at great length.

First you can take conotations of the words themselves: 'Bible' - a form representing the all encompassing truth and the rules that society abides by; and 'Neon' - an image set firmly in the modern world and suggests a level of 'illumination' (enlightenment) for those exposed to it.

I think its possible to detract from these meanings that the band see their album as a work of modern truths; a posioned prophecy exposing the deterioration of society that the band plan to pour "out onto the world." And if they're right, there's "not much chance for survival."

Furthermore I think to impact of the phrasr Neon Bible and its oxymoronic qualities are quite striking to the listener - Neon is a modern, hideously bright light and Bible is a holy, ancient book; the two should not be said in the same breath. Of course the song supports this contrast, with lyrics speaking of the demise and poison of the world set against a backdrop of slow tempo softly instrumental music.

Great song...
