I feel the statue is religion of some sort. Water brings life so does a god. He approached and was belittled and placed with many others. "We are far less than we knew" well we are only here to be faithful to a god, only to die and praise some more. Here's the lines that I want to focus on. Long after night has come to claim Any light that still remains in the corner of the frame That you put around her face Two pills just weren’t enough The alarm clock is going off but you are not waking up This isn’t happening It is Night = Doubt Light = hope or wanting to belive Frame = the point that you have some way made it important, built it up. The doubt takes away all hope at this time and you decide to end it, why, I have no idea. Maybe nothing to live for. To me this song is the realization of one on the falseness of their religion. |

My buddy and I just discussed this song and there has to be more to it than just love gone wrong. I picture being stuck on earth after Jesus has returned. Taking with him his faithful followers, although I'm an atheist, I was raised in church and the religious points of the song stand out and throw red flags. I feel his love was called to heaven and he was left behind to correct his life, and although he can't manage to believe, he still searches for his love and for something to help him to believe. In the end he only catches the dust of his past lovers body. I guess that was enough for him to let go. I'm drinking. Ill add something else at a later date |

| The Killers – Mr. Brightside Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Mr. Brightside is sarcasm. It's about being with someone but not trusting them. Like they are together on a date or just hanging out, and when they split ways for the night, he thinks of all the things she could be doing behind his back. Beautifully written. | |

This song is talking about language. And how we cannot truely express our natural feeling because everyfeeling is tied to a word, which ultimatley degrades the true feeling. Hear me out. "Now the whole world, is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening, yeah we all knew that day, would arrive" That's referring to us evolving and getting smarter as species, learning to speak. "So take these gifts that have been given, yes And ended up with an alphabet but some words are too wrong to define" First off I think "wrong", is the wrong word. It seems like it's long. The gifts are all the time and evolution that took place before us giving us language. However, that alphabet only goes so far, some feelings, words don't match, eventually it anchors us, giving us a limited swimming area. Also, these are what I think are correct lyrics. Now it's all laid out in front of you and maps have murdered the mystery Are you still too shy to describe? Now the whole world is waking up, a ribbon cut for the opening Yes, finally the day has arrived So receive, the good news, And rejoice, ????, Fill your hands with something tangible and fly your love like a flag And destroy, alphabet, the desire, appetite, for that which is impossible And accept what you get with a smile The map reference is on language. When something happens, we automatically linking that emotion to a word, destroying the mystery of some vague off-centered feeling words limit us from. Ok and here is where Conor just amazes me once again... "And destroy, alphabet, the desire, appetite, for that which is impossible And accept what you get with a smile" There is so much to this. He's saying destroy the language that limits our feeling. Alphabet is language. Then he says while still under the word destroy, appetite. By this he means our wanting to explain and match words to incoherent and undescribable feeling and emotions. Then he goes on to tell us to just accept it, naturally. Just let it hit you however it may. Fucking genius |

I can see the drug reference. I love how he writes. No matter what he writes about, you can always get your own meaning from the song. You can make most songs relate to at least one thing youre going through or experiencing. Like this song makes me think about religion. How people feed their kids verses of scripture, trying to get them to walk the straight and narrow line to heaven. The "look how high I'm jumping from, you'll never make it" reminds me falling out of faith. Standing firmly beside not believing. The "you'll never make it" reminds me of someone understanding your points and explanations on how there is no God, but the fear of burning forever keeps them from jumping in to the beliefs all the way. The "walk into the light" is her or him abandoning his side and siding with the beliefs of a God. Maybe he sees someone that believs as ignorant, making it easier for him to forget get right before impact, or death. When death comes they'll know the truth, that there is no God. The "calcium waste" is our bodies returning to nature, no sould just our natural structures returning to earth only to become something else. To me I guess the truth of the matter is no one understands religion, that's why faith exsists. I dunno, I'm fucked up right now. |
