I remember reading this reply in 2007 and my father just died and I had no idea what to listen to so I put on this song. I know it's weird, but thanks. |

The thing about this is, do you think Defiance, Ohio has grown as artists? They still play art galleries in LA, even if so many kids come they have to play twice, earnestly talking to them about what the songs mean. Their newest albums have shown a total growth musically.
Artists can move on. A belief in anarchism is not always sustainable.
The thing, though, the thing I love about underground punk is that it's raw intentions and sincerity, bloody fingers and guitar strings as a vessel for honesty. and this lacks that.
All that being said, I don't really care what they do now. This just doesn't have anything I want in my music. The thing I love about anarchism and punk fests (we're talking bereafest, pix fest, not the fest) is that it's kids, even if they have bad ideas, building the kind of communities THEY want to live in, openly sharing ideas and information. When we live in a world that breeds alienation and inertia, that kind of action ins incredible. So, I just can't relate to this. Shows in basements and living rooms have saved my life time and time again, and nothing, for me, can compare to that kind of feeling.
this kind of integrity doesn't come easy, but you're never gonna find it for sale. |

sometimes this song reminds me of how I get enamored with girls who used to be wonderful and dated boys who destroy them who have a long history full of hurt and tattoos and I make them mixes and can never figure out what I want with them. or sometimes I replace it with him and sing it about the boy I love/my best friend. it's beautiful, yes, and I listen to at on seven am drives. I always loved the line, "Every whisper sounds like a song that says, I've never felt this way before." |

I'm really surprised no one mentioned the Great Depression song "Brother, can you spare a dime?" The allusions he uses are incredible. |

| The Weakerthans – Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure Lyrics

This song kills me too. It's kind of like Naols said. I cried during the first song about Virtute, and then when I saw the title of this one, and I heard it, I cried. From the song, I don't really get that she came home. If she had, she'd remember the sound, which I also think is her name, but she forgot it. and it makes me really sad and scared for the owner. |

This is my favorite off of the album.
