So, after a good ten years of listening to this song, I'm pretty well convinced that you've not got it quite right. I think the lyric is actually something like "shouldn't wake me up, it's my lie/ life". This interpretation seems to make a bit more sense, seeing as, to the best of my knowledge, Elliott never really wrote anything full of overtly sexual innuendo. Similarly, I think that, if it is "shouldn't wake me up" that there is an implied "you" or "ya" that comes before it. He does that quite a bit actually. Anyhow, that's my take on it. The rest of the lyric seems more or less correct. |
