| VNV Nation – Goodbye 20th Century Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Every lyric site so far has this listed as instrumental, but I've love to know what the announcer is saying in the opening sample. | |
| Supertramp – Rudy Lyrics | 14 years ago |

To me this has always been a song about a lonely man who: 1) Is moving through the motions of life without actually living it 2) Is waiting for someone (in my view a woman or friends) to notice him, but... 3) Tries to distance himself because he's mistrusting and rejects others' advice He tries to drown out his sorrow by watching movies and getting his mind out of the present (as I'm sure everyone has done after a breakup.) While it works temporarily, the comfort only lasts until he has to face life again. |

| Electric Light Orchestra – 10538 Overture Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I never really interpreted this song as anything about society. In my mind it is about a man who has been rejected by a woman (his wife, girlfriend?) and ends up committing suicide. The person singing is asking her how she can be so callous and uncaring to have let him go off and kill himself, asking her if she has any remorse about it, or even if she thinks of him as anything other than a statistic. I always thought 10538 was the number assigned to his corpse after his body is recovered. Haunting. |

I sort of think about this song as encouraging the downtrodden, or minorities, to come out and stop caring about how others judge them. The whole "gates of hell" thing is kind of a sarcastic mockery against those who oppose them. So in a way, the people who spoke about homosexuality sort of fits in with this idea. Of course, it could apply to many things. Atheism, cultural clashes, even just a kid from a strict family discovering rock and roll... who knows. |

I got the impression this song was kind of an anti-government type thing, where with technology the government can spy on you and monitor your life. Aliens just seems too easy. Also, it kind of seems to me like a lot of these good bands that like creative music videos tend to have a very different type of story for the video than the song. Kind of a thematic remix from audio to visual. |

| Pendulum – Propane Nightmares Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I sort of read this as a song talking about his love or lust for a woman who lives a lifestyle he can't keep up with. He wants to join her in her life of extremes, even though he knows it can only end in utterly disaster. Though his "mind is willing"--he thinks he wants to join her--his "soul remains", and his friend keeps trying to convince him not to chase her, which he perceives as "tearing him down." Life fast and die young? |

| Squeeze – Tempted Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Yeah, I'd be surprised if Squeeze hadn't been using an allusion to Adam and Eve and the apple. | |

I agree mostly. I'm not sure he was necessarily cheating, but might have done something bad enough to have his old girlfriend break up with him. Then like observer01 said, he meets a new girl but in his heart knows that he doesn't really love her the way he loves his old girlfriend. That is the "truth" he discovered since his old girlfriend left. I'm still not fully sure what to make of the last verse, though, especially "but it's not my conscience/that hates to be untrue." |

1) I think this song basically means be happy with your own relationships, don't worry about what others say or judge. or 2) It could be about the shallowness of certain figures who are more concerned with looks. I tend to think it's more of 1. |

| Moby – Dream About Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm not quite sure what to make of this song. It kind of sounds like someone who loves someone who doesn't love back, or kind of like a breakup song. | |
| Moby – Slipping Away Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I kind of think this song is more focused on friendship and love. "Hold on to people, they're slipping away" means to not let ourselves isolate ourselves from others in our anger, pride, fear, sorrow, etc. I certainly have felt this before, wishing that one of my friends would try to work harder to maintain a friendship rather than let me slip away, and to cherish those who are there for you now. If you've seen the video, you kind of get a sense of family and history. I guess this song could also mean to not forget our ancestors who are fading away in time. |

Not many interpretations up for this song. To me, it could be about dying. Kind of retrospective, looking back at life and feeling the serenity. And despite the seeming isolation, he realizes he was never alone in life--he always had friends and supporters. |

VNV Nation teaches many things, but it does not teach hate. You're just a dumbass, Waldemar. I don't think this song is a direct response to the Bush Administration. Perhaps the Bush administration is an example of what the song teaches against, but by no means will Bush have been the first to create such a scenario. |

| Electric Light Orchestra – Eldorado Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song touched me early in life. I've always had a fascination with Eldorado and the concept of a perfect world. Like the rest of the concept album, this song is about a guy who at some point or other wanted to leave his boring world and find Eldorado, but of course his tale is tragic. Every time he gets there he is just dissapointed and broken, so now he knows for sure there is no glory left, nothing there left for him. Yet he still finds "they key to the eternal dream." I interpret this as meaning he has realized that since he can't go to Eldorado, he might as well just live his life the best he can for real, free from all the stresses of trying to find a dying dream. |

This is a great song. I stumbled upon it mostly by accident. Everyone has a desire to kind of fit in. Being kind of shy, lonely introvert, I've had this feeling a lot in my life, a kind of frustration to simply fit in like everyone else. It truly helps to have friends who encourage you to be yourself, like the narrator sings in this song. This song is also so great to me because it's simple. There's no definite rhyme scheme or colorful language. It's just one simple man pouring out his heart with the best words he can. |
