Ray LaMontagne – All the Wild Horses Lyrics 18 years ago
To me this song is about a lost time. I envision a western sky and a valley filled with wild horses. A land that civilization has yet to marr. Then my thoughts turn to modern times. Everything is about how we can profit. I see those horses being "wrangled" and torn from their homeland only to be enslaved by man. However, they will always remember how things were. The spirit of the horse will always be wild. Perhaps someday it will again. Until then, they will endure and watch the clouds pass patiently.

Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics 18 years ago
I have heard a lot of comments on the fact that this song shows Stevens' "anger" or "frustration" toward God. I don't really think that is what it is at all. To me, it is just like everyone else, confusion. The line I am mostly referring to is the end when he says, "all the glory, when he took my place, and he took my shoulders and he shook my face, and he takes, and he takes, and he takes." The first line of "he took my place," referrs to Jesus taking our place on the cross when he atoned for our sins. Quite a glorious event for Christians. I believe the end is a double-meaning. One being, He (Jesus) takes all of our suffering. The other is where Stevens' is confused and pondering the loss of his friend. It seems like everything we love is taken from us at times, and it is human nature to blame God. It is a great song about a myriad of emotions felt when something we love is gone. I think we all would agree that it takes us on that familiar roller coaster of feelings when we lose something, or someone we love. A very well crafted song.
