As per www.impeachmybush.com "Your face never saw the sights, the bright lights, the walls that always invite, get it right, no fright" and "I'll give you a bus ride, a park slide, a high rise full of surprise, a smooth path, follow track" and "I had me a meal and that kept you barely from whining" |

Following that she says Bowery in the first line, she then continues with two other parts of NYC, then why does she shift to Paris? I realize that's she's singing in French but it's odd that she references three different parts of NY and then changes to Paris. It's highly unlikely, but is there any chance she's referring to Paris St. in New York? "Down in Paris they walk fast, that is, unless they're walking slow And in cafes they look away, that is, unless they look right in And in the gardens I get lost, that is, unless I'm getting found And if you are the ghost of New York city, won't you stick around?" Strongly links Paris and New York. If she were saying Paris in the first line, however, it would make sense, as the French are stereotyped as avid smokers, and are sometimes, (stereotypically, again) portrayed as pretentious - this carries over to the notion that they "lose their bowed eyes and lipped mouths in the night" as in they become more friendly / easier going at night. I'm pretty sure most of that's wrong, just throwing it out there and maybe someone else will get an idea from my rambling. Also, I love this line: "But if you are a friend of any sort then play along and catch a cold" |
