Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics 18 years ago
TO CLARIFY:
Deutschland über Alles was, and is the German national anthem (though today only the third verse is used). It translates to Germany Over All, literally. Its purpose, however, was to inspire people to support the Großdeutschland, or "Greater Germany" idea around the time of German Unification (Germany used to be a bunch of little Kingdoms until 1870), and to say to the people"forget your little Kingdom, Germany is more important.

Now, when Hitler came along to power, he did, as someone pointed out, use the first verse to motivate the soldiers, but that would be no different than using the inspiring first verse of the American national anthem to motivate US troops. Furthermore, Hitler actually lessened the use of the song as the National Anthem by supplementing it with the Horst Wessel Lied (or Horst Wessel Song), named after a young Nazi who died at some point during the pre-war period. Nevertheless, due to lousy translation and assumption that it was made for imperial ambitious (Germany invading and ruling over everything), it got the stereotype of being a Nazi, or at least warlike song. Also, the fact that modern day Germany spazzed and forbade the first verse helped propagate this misconception.

That aside, this song is badass.

The Magnetic Fields – The Dreaming Moon Lyrics 18 years ago
Haha, I came here intending to write exactly what 3RA1N1AC wrote-I have never been able to listen to a song so many times without it losing a molecule of its charm.

Everything comes together so perfectly. This is no song. It is a feeling, an experience.

Air – Mer Du Japon Lyrics 18 years ago
I wonder if it has any meaning outside of the geographical context. I mean, sure the Sea of Japan is an actual sea, but maybe its about feeling lost in the vastness and foreigness of a city like Tokyo or Kyoto...sort of a follow up to their work with Lost in Translation?

Gorillaz – Happy Landfill Lyrics 18 years ago
Maybe a little lofty and presumtuous, but I think there might be a little Jungian psychology in this song.

So follow the lives
Till they cut up your eyes
You won't be even seeing if you ain't growing lies
Then bought all the shit
That should never be sold
They put a gun above it and a narrow behold

The concept of the self, the ego, and the persona are coming into play here, the persona being your outwardly projected image that fits into society's norms, the ego being yourself at a given moment, and the self being "what you could be, and what you should be." The ideal method of living is to match the self to the ego, but a common shallow existence that is popular in today's world is for the ego to match up with the persona. So, in following the lives of, as cliche as this sounds, "shallow celebrities," (D-Sides seems to have this as a theme, as evidenced by the music video to Rockit), your eyes, your inner eye with its focus on the self, is cut up. You are at this point, through your indoctrination by common society, so focused on the persona, that you "won't be seeing if you ain't growing lies." Growing lies-growing a persona that is acceptable to those around you.

"You bought all the shit that should never be sold." Is referring to the making of all things that are good for the self into buyable commodities. So I suppose the Gorillaz live in the Happy Landfill, which may not be as glamorous as the world of celebrity, commodity, and the ego-persona relationship, but is good for the self, which when matched with your ego, brings about true happiness.

Just a thought.
