I agree with the entries I skimmed on here. That it’s about a relationship between a girl and a boy. The girl clearly feels more and gives more in the relationship. The boy doesn’t feel that much nor gives as much in the relationship. Here is a girl in love with a boy and the boy is using her until he finds what he is truly looking for. The fact that they are sort of singing together throughout the song shows that the girl understands what he is saying and as much as it hurts, realizes the reality of the relationship, as the boy is repeating it over her. The phase “Volcanoes melt you down”, they BOTH say it. I think when he says it he is saying, “This fire you have for me will destroy you.” Because he doesn‘t feel the same way as her. And the girl is saying, “Well, this fire you have for ME will destroy YOU.” because she is young and you could tell he wants her. The song doesn’t exactly say how he wants her, if it’s for love or for sex. But, you can tell he wants her. He just can’t because A. He is looking for something else and just using her and B. She is young. I love this song, but the thing that irks me though is it makes me wonder HOW FUCKING YOUNG iS THE GIRL? That’s a little creepy. I'm assuming by the word “still”, she is a minor. But, I think like the age difference isn’t that big of a deal. It’s just he is legal like his early 20s and she is like 16/17. That’s not that bad. But, if she is like 14... fucking shit, Damien. Or he is in his 30s wanting some high-school-er, damn. But, I seriously doubt it's about that. Either that or when he says that she's still too young, it just means mindset. Like this is her first time falling in love and he doesn’t want to play her like that if it’s her first time. Like he is tempted to keep going with the relationship, but he knows better. He knows he would be a jackass if he does. Because not only does she love him while he doesn‘t feel the same. hence using her and dragging her along, but this is her first time and she is naïve. |

In the beginning of the song, I got the feeling it was an inspirational song about doing whatever you set your mind to. Especially, when he said, "Cause I can lead a nation with a microphone.” Basically, we all have a chance to impact this world. However, towards the end and even in some parts during the beginning, there was just this sarcasm and darkness to his accomplishments. As if he was actually happy about being able to cause harm to other people. That's when I got the idea that he was talking about how people do things and they don't even think about how it will affect other people. This society ideology is base on individualism. There is little compassion for other people and there is A LOT of violence against people by regular people. It’s just about you. What you can do and what you have. Survival of the fetus. Therefore, I thought he was talking about people in general. Some of you are saying he was talking about Bush. Same idea (arrogance, individualism, little compassion, violence, selfish, etc), but just on a specific person (Bush), not people in general. All in all, love love love the song. Ha, I'm such a girl. :D |

| I think poeple who think this song is perverse isn't way off. True, when I first heard it, I thought it was a beautiful song about innocent love. However, in the society we live today, it's easy to assume everything is perverted. Someone can take this song and think it's about an older man trying to get with a younger girl. Maybe he is suffering from some sort of mental disorder. That's why he actually thinks he can go to a dance with her and that all she has to say is "Get off my back, dad!" I have met older guys who are completely delusional and have no sense of how society works. It's possible. However, I really thought this song was just about innocent love and I'm SO HAPPY from reading these entries from you guys, that it's about that and not some perverted insane type of thing. THANK YOU! | |

From watching the video and hearing/reading the lyrics, I pretty much think it's about really bad breakups. When it comes to breakups, ususally the person has all these mixed up thoughts and feelings. A part of them is wondering, what they did wrong. Another part of them is blaming the ex. A part of them is wanting to phyically hurt the ex and another part, just wants to be with them again. It's all these thoughts and emotions mixed together, to make the person feel like they can't take it anymore. Throughout the song, the singer is talking about that. If you read it, certain things really stand out. Like the beginning, where he is talking about wanting to love them but at the same time, bug them. Or when he talking about not being able to take it anymore. Repeatedly calling this girl stupid but at the same time, calling himself a loser. It's just a song with all over the place thoughts and emotions. In the video, people are talking about past relationships. I even remember a girl ripping up a poster with a guy's name on it. I think Damien was the name. |
