randyg4's pretty much got it in my opinion. Rather than it being pessimistic and optimistic people, it makes more sense to believe that he's much more of a realist than she is. I don't think the relationship could work at all, it's probably already over in this song, because he's saying the flowers will fade. The flowers SHE gave him. They've faded, along with the relationship and yeah, he's mourning the relationship.
This is my favourite song because I'm a realist like him, it makes sense. |

Yeah, I was watching an interview with The Killers and they were talking about how they thought their band name was perfect for their type of music, and i was immediately like - murder trilogy. Lol.
I love songs that make you think like this. Obviously something's gone really wrong in the relationship, probably Jenny has decided she doesn't want to be with him anymore and i think he can sense that ("Before you say goodbye").
Then, it seems as if Jenny has totally moved on with her life, because i agree with the wrecking-wedding bell theory. He's obviously "not satisfied" and misses her like crazy.
In 'Midnight Show', I think he actually kills her halfway through the song. When he says "Let me take a little more off your mind" I think he rapes her. He's actually talking to her during the song not to the audience, asking her if she can keep a secret. By the end of the song he has raped and killed Jenny, dumping her into the ocean while mocking her, asking if she can keep a secret again, which of course she can 'cause she's bloody dead.
'Jenny ... etc' is the police interrogation, he's insane, blinded by love, also making fun of them by repeatedly saying "She couldn't scream while i held her close" because the police probably strongly suspect him but they've got nothing on him.
And yeah, that1guyWILL, there's probably some sort of twist. Can't wait, haha. |

I don't think this song is meant to be 'beautiful'. Behind it's beautiful sound it's actually quite sleazy and dirty, a bit like what Dressed2Depress said. It's almost like the sound is trying to drown out the true meaning and purpose of the song, which is what a lot of artists do these days. Anyway, that's what i think |

andrew 813, you're thinking the same things as me! No one ever really posts my interpretation of songs, although Jack's Mannequin is so unpredictable that some of the wacky theories people come up with could actually be true. I think this song is about someone singing/speaking to the one they love on their deathbed. The rain symbolises tears and also power, in my opinion, but then he says 'rain that makes the flowers bloom' which is saying, you have to go on without me. It's a really sad song, actually. |

I think this is about a little 'fling' Andrew might have had, and when he leaves, he finds that his lover has forgotten about him. It fits, in my opinion. "This plane's all I've got", "You haven't shown your face here since the bad news", and many more relate to my theory. Oh well, it's just what I think. Does anybody else agree? |

Andrew probably wrote this particularly about a girl he has spent some time apart from. Although, if you think about it, it could really be anything. Your own interpretation, even if it wasn't written for that purpose. Andrew McMahon has that amazing ability, and that's what i love about his music. |
