The Like – June Gloom Lyrics 18 years ago
sounds an awful lot like a criticism of our world and lifestyle. how the world is being destroyed by pollution and how global warming is taking effect. how everyone says we should save our planet and be less wasteful and disrespectful, but it takes action too...not just words and resolve. how we wouldn't really change our comfortable lifestyles to better the world as a whole.
the bridge translates as she feels powerless because she, alone, can't do anything.

Matthew Good – I Am Not Safer Than A Bank Lyrics 18 years ago
I hate that this song is 3 seconds long. I really really love it. I listen to it on repeat all the time.

As for the meaning. Strange, but I think a "fuck you" to Jen could it.

I was just reading the REAL lyrics of this song which are pretty different, and I think I might have an idea of what it's about.

We all know Matt's stance on America, war, poverty etc, right? Well, this song could be about soldiers going into third world countries and waging war against them for petty reasons (ie. oil, money, nukes, power). I get that from the second verse. The lyrics are
"face first pilots through your window - (kamikaze soldiers?)
them paupers they catch hell! - (the poverty stricken villagers getting attacked?)
it's strange to think we could have been
so brought up by ourselves - (being immature, pretty, devoid of morals or knowing right from wrong?)

The first verse to me just seems like a school shooting situation. From the point of view of the shooter. I know it seems bizarre, but matt does fixate on these things. Maybe someone will see where I'm coming from, if they read the lyrics.

The third verse confuses me. About unemployment and military maybe?

In any case, it was my very favorite song off of Hospital Music when it first came out. Still perfect.

Matthew Good – Odette Lyrics 18 years ago
Personally, I don't see this as a love song at all.
To me this song is about person struggle. In this case maybe more specifically about his battle with bi-polar.

Being exhausted, but your mind is awake and racing:
"I look tired, but I'm
I feel wired"

"And my body hums like it's coming undone"
I have actually felt this. Skin crawling...

The want of being free of constantly being so aware and alert of everything around you..unable to relax. He wants to be less awake so he can forget what's happened to his life.

And the midnight with the stars...makes me think of driving on a highway. Maybe the escape of all his troubles?

Just my personal interpretation of the feel of the song I guess.

Matthew Good – Born Losers Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is superb.
some interesting interpretations.
i also heard about the miscarriage, and i would agree that maybe this is a bogus story, but the lyrics do seem to fit so well;

"Well there ain't nothin' to this but your daughter
And the life you would not give her
Break your plans"

Jenny was a partier and a gold digger, no? This seems to suggest that the reason their marriage is over is because of Jenny's unwillingness to break her plans of partying, and this might have resulted in the miscarriage, hence "the life you would not give her", because she had a choice.

"She could never say that flat out she don't want me
'Cause I could never say that halfway ain't enough"

I know some people have commented on this, but...hell. What a line! To me, this sums up their entire relationship. Of course the side I know of knowing Matt's music.

"Your whole life, a plane without no landing gear
So if this is it, then come on let me land"

Just another immense line! Praise, praise!
