The Strokes – Hard To Explain Lyrics 17 years ago
I got a pretty clear interpretation from this song. He knows a girl/met a girl from Carolina [though it doesn't have to specifically be Carolina. It could be anywhere different from NY]. And they talk ["we shared some ideas"]. The girl "says we're all the same" but he says "I don't see it that way", perhaps she has a small town view, less "life experience" than the singer [Julian] has had. He hangs out with her, they're friends, they get close but they're not like in love or anything, at least it's not implied. And he's trying to be a nice guy and all, but he kinda messes up ["I say the right things, but act the wrong way"] just because that's not how he is. Maybe he's out of his comfort zone a bit?, but it's no biggie to him. And then eventually he just makes up excuses for it all ["I like it right here, but I can not stay" "well I am too young and they are too old" "missed the last bus, I'll take the next train"] he messes up, but he has an excuse/reason for it all. He's cool about it all. He doesn't let it get to him, he's just like "I'll take the next train" like, don't sweat it man.

Tokyo Police Club – Listen to the Math Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about a father having his first child and it's a baby girl. He thinks that he knows how to raise the child already ["I know how to raise you right"] and he knows what he wants to teach her. I think that when he says "you've been famous since your birth" implies that maybe this guy has been knowing that he can raise the child and everyone is anxious to see what happens, or if his methods of raising the child are truly the best for her.

But when he sings "let your atlas curl" maybe that means that you can't map everything out. You have to learn some things as you go along. By letting the "corners curl" it's accepting that he doesn't know everything that's out there, because if your map is curled then you don't really know what's out there beyond what you're focusing on at the moment, which can be a good thing sometimes.

"It's a ruse, it's a laugh. Experts, they'd agree. Listen to the math." I think that means others think it's foolish of him to assume he knows it all already. That he should listen to the math [the facts] and not try to do everything his way because he thinks it's the best way, because perhaps it's not as good as he thinks.

"Cause I've got one more up my sleeve. Bring it out tonight. Cause if I am the joke, Then you're the punchline" By that I think he's now defending himself. They're calling him a joke and he's going to prove them wrong because if he's the joke then they're the one who is really going to get laughed at [the punchline] when he succeeds.

But then at the end he says "I need a second opinion, not a second too late." He admits that he's going to need help, and it also makes it seem like he was never all that confident in raising the perfect child. He only wanted his child to have the best and that's what he'll try to give her.

And they definitely sing "Australopithecine" after they sang "Listen to the math"

I could go on explaining.. but I think it would just be annoying to say my entire interpretation.. haha

Albert Hammond Jr. – In My Room Lyrics 17 years ago
I thenyouwokeup really summed it up. It's about a guy who likes a girl/is with the girl and he's telling her you don't need to talk cause I get it, you're walking away from me (literally). and he insults her about how the other guys are after her to try to make it easier for her to leave. but really, he misses her already and maybe she's not even out the door yet.

I can relate to this song.. :[ boo hoo

The Cure – Friday I'm in Love Lyrics 17 years ago
he's saying that he doesn't care about the rest of his week, it's Friday he wants cause that's when he gets to see his girl. maybe she lives in another town nearby and works all week [or maybe goes to school] and they can't always see each other, but when Friday comes she comes over and they spend the night together and he can watch her "eat in the middle of the night" and she gets all dolled up for him and they love every little thing and "can't get enough of this stuff" and make it special because it's Friday, they're in love!!

Belle & Sebastian – Wrapped Up in Books Lyrics 18 years ago
they both have these plans/goals they want to achieve but they don't, maybe because they're shy. but they both know what the each other wants = "our inclinations hidden in looks"
