This song is about addiction. Alchoholism. Being in recovery myself, this song is a perfect representation of the endless monotony of killing yourself slowly with drugs and alcohol. You know there is a life out there that you are missing out on, and would love to be apart of it, but you only see it watching the TV late at night while youre messed up. You know you need change, you are miserable in your head at all times, yet you keep returning to the demon that is destroying you. Too anyone who may be reading this who is an Alcoholic or Addict like me, there is hope. I promise. A.A., N.A. etc. There are millions of us out there. Nothing you are going through is unique to you. Someone else has lived it and dug out of it. I didn't believe this Sh*t either. I repeat, there is hope. |

My first impression of the lyrics were about being really drunk at a strip club and falling in love with a stripper. At the end he hits the proverbial too drunk "wall" and sings what sounds to me like "I wish this night would end". Thus ending his drunken infatuation. |

Its a song about overcoming depression. Realizing that your life and your soul are more than your problems. You are not alone because you always have yourself and you should cherish it. In the Grand Scheme of things, all of your current troubles are inconsequential. |

This song is about life. You continue to press on in your mundane existance. Forever hoping to help someone or change things. Maynard states that that is what keeps him going and what keeps him from just walking away (killing himself presumably, because life is a usless exercise). He keeps that on the table "i still may" BUT, he's going to be patient and wait it out to see if things get better. Pretty Straight forward for a Tool song. |

This is a direct conversation to his mother. Like a letter. Her name was Judith Marie. She was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for approx. 10,000 Days (serious) She was a christian. Maynard is a outspoken atheist, and he is questioning her how can she still believe in a god that would allow her to be paralyzed and immobilized. She died shortly before 10000 Days. Wings for Marie pt. 1 and 2 are really touching, a eulogy to his mother. Maynard even hints that he is possibly hoping for an afterlife, for his mothers sake if nothing else. |
