Well, imo it's that he was once in love with a girl. But in the future, she changes into a different person. Even if she DID change, he still loves her like he did before. I just love Say Anything's lyrics. |

I agree with CarriedWithoutSoundx. He said : "I don't think it was directed towards anyone or anything. Most artists write their music based on personal events, but write it nuetrally so their audience can interpret the lyrics anyway they want. But enough of that, here's my intake on this song: The boy in this song was in a relationship with a girl, but he had always been too afraid to truly let on how much she meant to him, when she really was aching for him to open up. She was aching so much, that when he couldn't open up, she broke up with him. I think that's the base of the song, and everything else is how he's dwelling on the situation after it happened. As in, when the old man is talking to him, giving him advice that he knows he should've taken. And the advice is basically making him want to find her and tell her how he feels, but he's discouraged. But everyone's pushing him on to let her know. Here's my analyzation on this part: "you want to be dressed in poetry but imagery doesn’t fit and you want resizing but darling dear get a grip" Okay, I think that's the abstract form what he'd like to say to her, but knows he never could. I think what he's trying to say is "You're so focused on being loved by someone in general, that anyone would do, and if I don't say I love you openly, you want to pull it out of me, but you really can't expect that much from me just yet."
