i think its exactly as Cariad puts it two people who know they cant be together have one night of passion that they both know can never happen again. in that night they share hearbeats etc, all the romantic things in the first bit of the song. to call for hands of above is reffering to asking god to make this happen and make it a permanent thing after that one night is over and he wants more the guy wants more but the girl has a husband/boyfriend and cant get back with him reconising it would be "the hand of the devil", the line and you kept us AWAY (not awake)with wolves teeth i take to be the woman strongly telling him to forget it now, and how she is not on a "different heartbeats" to him. i think this song is beautiful and perfectly embodies the emotions that come with this type of encounter. you can feel the singers helplessness and his desire but also how there is nothing he can do about it. its rare to see a song which encapsulates a set of emotions and describes a complex event as well as this one does. |
