This is so beautiful, especially now that I know the story behind the song. It's not about the love of a girlfriend, rather the love for a child. Ben Harper wrote this song for Heath Ledger's daughter, Matilda. Heath called Ben and told him he was having a girl and wanted him to write a song for him, Ben obliged and here is the answer. Now that Heath is dead, this song is going to mean so much to Matilda. Well done Ben Harper. Through this song Heath lives on. x |

With John singing this the song almost takes on a different meaning - the music remains the same but the passion and motivation from the voice are entirely different. I love the original, but I love this version even more. John has done a huge justice to this song. Simply beautiful |

I don't think it's about one relationship, or 'breaking up'. I think it's about the relationship with life; pain, the good and the bad - just what you learn along the way. I think the bottom line is that even when Life throws you shitty cards, there is always the rest of your life there, the 'heart' of life IS good. |

I agree with junglemonkey. To me, it could really relate to a form of anxiety - social anxiety, or even agoraphobia. Interesting song. I guess the beauty of JM's music is that it really is a form of art and expression, and is therefore open to interpretation. |
