sounds like the person the song is about may be having a falling out with old friends, they just can't pretend to have anything in common anymore. maybe the person misses the summer, when they were all good friends, and feels like the fall is smothering them along with their other issues. maybe the person did something to upset their friends and regrets it and just wants to hide (under the covers) but knows they'll have to leave. |

i think you guys are right, but maybe at the end of the song he realizes that he does actually want to be with her...

i want more of everything"
maybe the girl was helping him get over a tough time, and they got together and he thinks he wants to leave, that she can't save him from whatever it is, but as he leaves he feels strange and realizes that he wants more? |

sounds like he's addressing a girl who maybe doesn't always know whether or not she's doing the right thing, but likes to go her own way about things and that isn't always approved by others. i think he's reassuring her that she's being true to herself and that's better than anything else she could do, and that's what she should do, and if she stays that way she'll ultimately be a better person than those who try to please everyone else. |

that makes sense... but i can't really figure out what they mean by "like ideas or emblems we've been had" in a way that it makes sense to compare it to "the way that ghosts watch themselves go down" ...thoughts? |
