I doubt anyone will see this comment, and this might have even been mentioned before. But in addition to this song's clear references to Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave,' it also references G. K. Chesterton's "Saint Francis of Assisi." The line about coming "out of the cave walking on your hands" is a direct quote from the book, and the rest of that stanza refers to the book, which toys with the world being seen by St Francis as hanging upside-down, literally "depending" (cf latin etymology of that word) on God.
This would hardly be the first time someone has tried to reconcile Pagan philosophy (Plato) with Christianity (St. Francis). In addition to this. Marcus Mumford has stated that Mr Chesterton is his favorite author, and his "The Outline of Sanity" is one of his favorite books. |

| Iron & Wine – Low Light Buddy of Mine Lyrics

The 'buddy' seems to be a very sneaky, dishonest friend of the main character in this song. He's waiting for the "light to change" and the "rain to pass" in the guy's relationship so that he can swoop in. That he "never looks till the lights are low" means that he always claims that he doesn't do or say a nasty thing intentionally, and sort of tries to sabotage his friend's relationship without him knowing. Of course, this is all from the narrator's perspective, so even if my assessment is correct, the situation might be a different one, since it seems to be very subtle and subdued. |

Haha! I actually just finished King Lear, and thought of this song, and came here to see if anyone else had had the same idea. Yep. King Lear. |

This is a million times more likely than the possibility of a zombie apocalypse or robot uprising. I love the idea of this song, and I think it may prove true. If the world really is being overpopulated, some plague will show up and wipe out most of us, and mankind will become nature's prey again. |

That's exactly what it means. She's not a real person, like a prostitute. She's a realistic, robotic almost, sex doll. That's her main selling point. It's (supposedly) guilt free as well as dirt cheap. |

| Five for Fighting – Policeman's Xmas Party Lyrics

I don't think it's about a wanna-be police man at all. I think this song is very different from John's other songs because it's about a stoner (There's blood on the carpet - I'm rewiring my brain) who gets arrested (
I got some new friends at West Valley PD) during Christmas time. He's just really confused during the whole song so he doesn't make much sense of anything.
And at the end
"Take off your clothes, take off everything you are, take off your heart" At the police station he probably had to strip, and drug overuse make you lose your heart and everything you are. |
