i think the leif erikson title refers to exploring the vastness of a relationship.. going from sexual mainly, to becoming more romatically/emotionally involved, to loving each other. "my love's subliminal" wow. thank god for paul banks. |

amazing song. probably my favorite.. this song can be seen in millions of ways, but for the heck of it... this is how i see it: they are friends. they have a good amount of history. he thinks they will always have the old times, but their relationship could be so much better if they become romantic. "claymaking that nothing else will change." we can be together and still have the good things of our friendship. but "she can read", she sees the negative things if it doesnt work out and thinks that this will only jeopardize their friendship. "its different now that im aging.." Now that he has realized what he wants, it drives him crazy that she feels this way, but everything she does, even when she is god awful boring ("her stories are boring and stuff"), she captivates him. she makes his heart heavy. "she gets in my room and she takes it apart", i think that when she is running through his head, it drives him, again, crazy. "her heaven is never enough" i think is when he realizes he might not be good enough for her and thats why she doubts it. |

i think this is all about the death of love. he is still obviously in love and by saying "vanishing with no guile" i think paul means she left with out a good enough reason, but he sees she tried and thats why she stays within his heart. the three stowaways has confused me, and everyone has great ideas about what these could be, but i think the dirt pile is where their dead love lies and that he, she, and their once living love are the stowaways. the soul is symbolic for maybe his heart? because he says "the soul can wait. i felt you so much today." maybe he wants he heart to wait for him to move on because he is still remembering his once love and is still in love. |
