oh and "exactly where do you get off is enough, is enough i love you but enough is enough, enough a last stop" get off is a term for getting high, like pushing off. "I love you but enough is enough, a last stop" is too obvious to bother explaining. |

I believe this song has to do with drug or alcohol addiction, and relapse. Though maybe not by Thom himself. "wakey wakey rise and shine it's on again off again on again watch me fall like dominoes in pretty patterns" this could refer to the first high of the day and the degradation felt. "squeeze the tubes and empty bottles and take a bow take a bow take a bow it's what you feel now" Cleaning the gear or finishing the bottle. "Take a bow its what you feel now" because you feel great after the fix. "we thought you had it in you but no no no" Friends want to help but the addiction is to strong and he keeps going back. "an elephant that's in the room is tumbling tumbling tumbling" the elephant refers to something that is obvious but no one will talk about. i.e. addiction, "duplicate and triplicate and plastic bags and duplicate and triplicate" duplicate and triplicate could refer to the dosage increasing with tolerance. "You've a head full of feathers, You got melted to butter." Could refer to the mental numbing and damage done by drugs, especially heroin. Think about it and let me know what you think! |

I believe this song is in reference to his relationship with a particular record company that he may have been with at the time that he may have been in disagreement with... being told what he can and can't do....and being unable to go anywhere else...other than of course drugs, after which, he won't care when the people in the studio or the people associated with the record company bitch and moan. I got nothing that I want to do More than make another Sonic fuck you to play Whenever you make my life cliche sonic is another word for sound So he wants nothing more that to make another "fuck you" kind of song for the company to play....they are making his life cliche by telling him what to do, or sing about. Why can't you just leave it at that And spare us both the bother Cuz I just bounce back anway again in reference to possibly the company telling him he needs to straighten out a bit but they need to just leave it at that because he is just going to bounce back to drugs anyway...just my interpretation...who really knows...i feel it's kind of sad to even try and interpret what was going on in such a beautiful song writers mind...there are things about him no one will know, nor do they have the right to....he was just a person like anyone else. |
