I get the song pretty literally. I think the message is quite explicit in this case. The song shares the view of the hole album which outstands the fact that you should let the voice inside guide you no matter what. Society, or your parents, or your obligations might opress you, still you have to fight that to let yourself free. Generalizing, you'll find that everyone's alone in that fight (though some (many) people might not have it) and human itself is destined to struggle in order to find a place (alone, "down on the upside") in this world. |

I get a total feeling of rebellion from this song. Chris is trying to portray the feeling of a rebellious mind getting what he wanted. He's becoming excited of the fact that he is finally turning himself "upside down". He ensures pride in "nothing's gonna put me out, it's backing down and under". The person is lettin himself free (from the oppressions of society, maybe) and now "everything's easy", "everything's real to me". He's now letting himself be full of the dust carried by the wind of revolution. He's becoming dusty. |
