| I don't like how everyone gets so obsessed with how to create the paradise described in this song. The US legal system was set up to promote perfect equality among people of the United States, and had one flaw: it could be changed. It went from being a single document to enough books of laws to fill a small library! We lost sight of the equality it was supposed to promote, and now we're frequently trying to twart it or use it against someone and some of the uses of it are totally opposite of what it was intended for. This is not in the spirit of the law as it was started hundreds of years ago! The way to stop hate is to STOP HATING!!! This is my main gripe with Christianity's answer to hate. If you get too obsessed with methods for defeating hate, you tend to forget the main point and hate starts creeping in again. You've shot yourself in the foot. Don't let it get that complicated! If you want to stop hate, DON'T HATE!!! It is almost that simple. The almost comes in because you can't just stand by and let others hate if there is something you can do to stop it. Hate's greatest ally is apathy--the people who don't care enough to stop it when they can. The devil [almost literally] is in the details. The more you focus on the details of a problem, the more you lose sight of the problem as a whole. Keep it simple and we may still get to "the day when nobody dies [unnecessarily]." To stop hate, quite simply DON'T HATE! (and try to stop hate when you can). | |

| *rolls eyes* WHY!! does every single love song have to be about God according to someone?!!! "Heaven's gates won't open up for me." People who are suffering from extreme, long term depression often feel that most people are part of an exclusive group who for some reason were born with the ability to feel happy. The depressed feel that they will never be part of this heavenly group so they think there might as well be a physical gate in the way of their happiness. It is a metaphor. If you have to make everything into something about God, you may want to consider that maybe "sinners" aren't the problem, but rather YOUR OWN SELF ESTEEM is the problem! Same concept as negative attention seeking. | |

I think it is about him leaving because he thinks she'll always be there, but then something happens to her and there's a very good chance that she is going to die so he realizes that he has to drop everything and spend as much time with her as he can because its the last chance he is going to get to be with her. This song brings back memories of a relationship I was sort of in with a girl who had commitment issues. She was the most amazing person I'm ever going to meet. She had this song on her myspace for a while and it has totally ruined the song for me. ‘Cause with you, I’d withstand All of hell to hold your hand I’d give it all I’d give for us Give anything but I won’t give up That is exactly how I felt when she started talking to me less and less. We haven't talked in over a year now but I really have to fight back the tears, usually without any success, every time I hear that song. It is like the only part of me and my life that really mattered is gone. |

Ya, genius. I wonder if he has gotten into another band. And in the Chorus, it should be "You feel so far away" not "It feels so far away" I'm pretty sure he says "And I feel so far away" not "Can I feel so far away?" |

| me_tall_i_ca came to the same conclusion I did. I think he was comparing an amazing relationship to a heroin high or something. It really is a great metaphor. And I agree that they were and amazing band and I really, really hope they get together again someday. It is so sad that they broke up the same year they released my favorite album of ANY band! | |
